Default Question about changing the oxygen sensor

I got a P0430 code on my IS350 so I wanted to swap the oxygen sensors to see if it's the sensor or the converter causing the code. I can't figure out how to remove the sensor though. How do I remove the metal shield to get to the sensor?

That's going to be an expensive way to find out what's wrong with your car. But if that's the way you want to fig it out your going to need a oxygen sensor socket to remove them.

The metal shield doesn't come off. You need a special O2 sensor socket to unscrew it. You can find it at Autozone for like $15 roughly or you can borrow their 3 piece set for free. That's what I did when I got the same exact code. Took like 2-3 hours to swap the sensors around and the next day the P0430 came up again so Lexus replaced my driver's side cat under warranty.

Yea what ^^^ he said the part you need is oem part# 25249 make sure the exhaust is cold. When I took mine off to install the exhaust it was really hard to get off.

what they said. I put a pic below for reference on how it has to be removed. My suggestion is to get the harness undone before removing the actual sensor from the exhaust. why do you have oil/water or what ever is that liquid leaking from your o2 sensor? OR did you spray it with PB blaster or something?

From what I have been reading that's the way to check. Is there a better/cheaper way?

Yeah, I saw your thread. I'm out of warranty though.

Thanks. Yeah, it's just WD40 I sprayed on there.

Since aalzubairi dredged up this old thread, I thought I'd add that P0420 and P0430 on the 2IS are usually caused by an exhaust leak in the Y-pipe (typically right where the heatshield attaches), and NOT by a bad catalytic converter nor a bad secondary oxygen sensor.
