i have 125K on my 06 is350 and still running strong. Had to change water pump at around 110 along with brakes and plugs, but that's your usual maintenance.

I got a 06 250MT, but if I were to go back I wouldve gone with a 06 IS350. honestly I think CW looks better than SFP

Bought 06' at 70k from a used car dealership. The only major issues were regular maintenance-plugs,oil,brakes,etc. I love this car.

I haven't seen any trend that the 06 IS has any more problems than their successors.

But I would normally stray away from first year models too.

I was originally only looking at 07+, but an 06 poped up with only 50k miles, clean carfax, always serviced at dealer. 90% recalls done, except for the VVT actuator, but dealer will get it done ASAP.

Should I stray away from this car just because of the fact that it was an 06 aka first year production?
I think the point of staying away from a first year model is when it first comes out--not years down the road. It's true there are a fair number of TSBs for the '06, but not anything major that is isolated only for '06.

I suppose for Lexus IS, being a first year production model shouldn't affect my decision? its also a $2000 saving compared to 07.

Like you, I've always said not to purchase the first year of the new re-designed model for any manufacturer. BUT, did that stop me from getting my '06 IS350 in April '11 with 31k miles? Nope! I got a killer deal that I couldn't pass up, and I've never regretted it! Like others have mentioned, the '06 model doesn't seem to have any more/less issues than later models. My IS350 has been the stereotypical 2IS with the "normal" issues, which include :

*NAV unit failure
*Water pump leakage
*Block EVAP drain (which caused a soaked in-cabin carpet)
*Rear seized calipers
*Weather-damaged windshield trim
*Dent in roof (yes, actually a common issue)
*Pealing window trim (the black portion on the chrome trim)
*Alternator failure
...and then all of the recalls.

The WP and drain blockage were Lexus repairs with ZERO out-of-pocket; and same goes for the numerous recalls. Those repairs that I had to fix myself (DIY KING!), only cost me <$1k. So it is MUCH less than an aftermarket extended warranty or the repair bill for a BMW.

I noticed theres a dent on my black Is250. Its located on the far top driver side of the sunroof. Is this an issue with the 2IS with roof dent?

Bought my 06 new in Dec 2005 and yes I (like many early adoptors) had some TSBs to do but so long as those are done, I say save the money and enjoy.
