Angry Has 2IS's resale dropped a lot due to 3IS ?

I never expected 2IS resale to drop so bad once sales of 3IS started. The reason being that the 2IS is still so perfect , not a single rattle or squeak and the engine is awesome.

But my dealer is quoting unrealistically low prices and it seems they are buying and selling the 2IS at dirt cheap prices. The reason they say is that the next generation 3IS is up on sale so the value of 2IS has dropped a lot. WTF , is this true ?.

Mine is the gulf spec 2010 IS300 bought used for 35,962 $ at 23,000KM or 14,912 Miles. Currently my car has done 65,000 KM or 40,389 Miles and my only dealer in the country is quoting a ridiculous price of just 14,235 $. I can't believe that the dealer themselves are devaluing the car so much in the market.

The car is just perfect and the only reason I planned to sell it is because I'm leaving the country and going back to my native. I love my car so much but I just can't take it back with me since the steering wheel is in the wrong side and my country does not allow importing car's with the steering wheel on the wrong side.

I went around checking some independent dealers and the max they are providing for my car is 21,352 $ , it's a lot better than what the Lexus dealer provides but still really doesn't justify the true value of this car as it's just perfect.

I would love to hear your opinions and is it the same there in the US as well. Have your resale values plummeted due to the 3IS or is it just my Lexus dealer trying to devalue the 2IS in our market ?

In the Bay Area, CA, they are going for about $35K for a IS350 with approx 20-25k miles and $27-29K for those with 35-40K. I just bought one with 41K CPO for $28K. I didn't think that was cheap for a 4 year old car. In contrast, a 2010 Infiniti G37S with 41K CPO was going for $24K. YMMV

My car's value is doing pretty well but then again I am obsessive about taking care of the car and the paint is in excellent condition.

Even my car's paint is perfect. Have been taking really really good care of the car. The car looks still like it's brand new. But where ever I go to sell my car , they just say the 3IS is out now , so the 2IS should be cheaper.

Check out pics of my car below

Sell it privately.

I have never sold to a dealer or traded a vehicle in.

On 6/29/2013 prior to their official release (7/1/2013) for the 2014 IS, I was thinking trading in my IS250 2012 F Sport with navigation with 25k miles in excellent show room condition protected by clear bra, they offered 26k and no discount whatover for the 2014 IS350 F Sport with navigation & Mark Levinson sound system. They want my F Sport intake and exhaust as well on the trade in.

I test drove the 2014 IS350 FSport for the first time and fell in love with it immediately especially the LFA cluster is just lovely. However, financially, it is not a wise decision so I said no and walked away.

Then in October 2013?? I was then invited for the Fast Lane Changing Event where they let me test drove 4 different cars: Audi, BMW, Benz and the new IS on an AUTOCROSS. The guy who drove the fastest in time trial also get a ride in a Lexus LFA. Lunch was provided together with some good freebies. It was great event. I also received a $1000 discount toward buying any new Lexus vehicle in that year. However, many dealers still sell the IS350 F Sport very close to the MSRP at that time. What price do they give on the IS350 F Sport now?

Yes I am planning to sell it privately but the issue is when these customers pass by the Lexus dealer to enquire on the price of the car. The dealer just says that they can get a 2IS for 20,000$ or so even when they don't actually have a 2IS in their showroom. They are devaluing the car a lot and hurting the brand.

I'm thinking of actually writing a letter to their head office in Abu Dhabi to complain about this. They do not value the car as much as a customer values it.

I'm not willing to sell it for less than 25,000$. If I don't get any buyer I'll just leave the car with my dad to sell it off later after I'm gone , hoping the market value increases later since during winter a lot of people are here.

If there wasn't another vehicle purchase involved in that deal, you should have DEFINITELY taken it and RUN.

I have a feeling you were trying to buy a new car and the dealer was about to rape you on the new deal, while making it seem like they are giving you a great deal on your trade. Hey, dealers gotta make money somewhere right?

It's a dealership in NJ, Mr. CA!

Nope, I am driving this baby into the ground. I should note the car has all the extra's except ML system and the radar cruise control. They gave me this offer while I was having my car serviced and have called me a few times to see if I changed my mind. I am emotionally attached to this car.

You guys should sell it on your own if the dealerships in your area aren't offering a good price. I got a decent quote at Prestige Lexus too. They offered 18K when I was thinking of getting an ES hybrid.

No, I never mention a trade in until I already have negotiated the price of the car where I am comfortable. In this specific offer they didn't attach it with the purchase of a new car. They might have assumed but I keep telling the two dealerships I go to stop contacting me about my car. Seriously, every week I get letters and calls from these idiots even though I told them I am intent on keeping my car.

To answer the OP's question, it seems like the 2IS still holds very high value here in CA. I'm not sure about elsewhere. Everyone wanted high prices for CLEAN low mileage 2IS IS350 when I was shopping, especially the 2011-2013, prices seems to jump a lot. Prices were in the 33-38k range for low mileage 2011-2013 CPO'd 350's.
