Potential IS buyer, reliability opinions wanted
Hello, I currently own a 2nd Gen GS, and am considering buying a 2007 IS350, would probably be around 100k or so, the GS is at 200k and haven't had to fix one thing yet, can I expect the same out of the IS? Any common issues? Consumer reviews all seemed positive, I looked at 3rd gen GS but heard about a lot of issues with them, and want something faster, all responses appreciated. Thanks.

The reliability has been great for me so far. Mine is an '06 350 that was bought with 28k miles, almost 6 years later I've done nothing but maintenance related things (just hit 100k). Spark plugs, oil changes, brakes, etc. The only thing that truly irritates me about this car is the dash material issues that are so frequent with the earlier cars, especially in southern climates. That is something I would look out for with the sharpest eye and avoid like the plague if it even appears to be wanting to start that crap. Maybe it doesn't happen up there, or at least not as frequently, but you should be aware of it.

Yes, my IS is my daily. I have another car but I rarely drive it. My commute during the week is only 4-5 miles one way so I only put on 12k-15k a year.

I have an 06 IS350 with 133k on it. I live in Wisconsin & the car originally came from the Chicago area. The dash on mine is fine & there is no service record of it ever being replaced. I think this is more an issue for cars that spent most of their life in warmer climates.

Yeah the dash is really the big issue. I have a car that sits out in the sun everyday so i get tons of sunspots and cracking. Nothing major but to the close eye its annoying. It gets really brittle where when I changed my nav unit, the edges started to crumble. Fixable, just annoying

Wow, just wow. The previous owner used a dash cover but he took everything off when I purchased the car 3 weeks ago. Starting to make me worry now. I don't really like the look of a dash cover, do you think having my front windshield tinted would be good enough? Just a clear tint for UV radiation. The rest of my car has been tinted 35% all around so I don't want less sunlight coming in

I'm on my third IS250 / IS350 (1 - 250 AWD and 2 - 350s RWD)
Sold the IS250 with 135k ... zero issues, I was very good about schedule maintenance
Sold the 1st IS350 with 125k miles.... zero issues.
Still have an IS350 with 68k miles.... knock on wood, zero issues.

Keep the GS!!! We have a 98 GS300 with over 250k still going strong and little to no issues. Prior to my purchase of an 07 350 I had an is300. If I could go back id keep my 300is. These second hens are total junk!
Dash metls and gets sticky
Door panels metl and get sticky
Water pumps leaks after 100k
Headlights fade or bubble at 100k
Wind sheild moulding breaks ,chips, cracks under the sun
Touch screen goes out from use age
Rear view mirror distorts and becomes useless
Window trim peels back (area that's chrome with black rubber)
The list goes on and on. It's a nice looking car with 300hp but apples to apples my 02 is300 would have still outlasted this car and had just as good of a look.

I wouldn't say the 2IS is total junk. There are a lot of people out there who have had issues with their 2IS but i think the customers who are satisfied with the reliability really out weighs the customers who have had issues. And the majority of the issues I've seen, heard, and have dealt with my self are cosmetic issues. Other than the carbon issues with the IS250 and the Cam Gear issue on the IS350's (which there are recalls on both issues) the car is a pretty reliable car. And these TSB issues can be avoided with proper preventative maintenance.
My 2IS AWD is just about to hit 100k and all ive done was regular maintenance and its running strong. There are quite a few 200k cars as well. (but the majority of ISx50's are still under 100k). I think with either one you choose, It will be a great car that treats you well.
