Gville350,

Thanks for your input. My 350 is up to date with all the recalls.. I called the dealership and they confirmed. What is very funny though is that there is no cam gear recall in Canada. What they replaced last time was the VVT Intake Actuator Gear. I somehow thought it was cam gear that they replaced. I was wrong.. and I cant even drive the even if I want to lol.. Will take it to one of the dealerships nearby once I hear back from Lexus Canada.

sm1ke,

I have been hearing about the carbon build up issues when it comes to IS250 too.... I think you gotta be very firm to get the dealership do something for you.

You had mechanical noise the day before and then the engine stopped and gave every indication via codes that the engine is out of time. I would suspect the noises are metal on metal. Valve meets piston. I would not drive the car any further until it's inspected by a qualified tech.

UKDSMer,

Yeah the noise I was getting the day before wasn't loud... I just thought it was coming from the heat shield or sth.. What is really scary is that the car didn't even give me any kind of warnings.. All the lights came on when the engine stopped running . Do you think that the engine is seriously damaged? The car is currently sitting at my place..
Thank you for your insight.

What they fixed is exactly what here in the US we have a recall on; it is a part of the intake cam gear :

Safety Recall DLG Remedy Notice - Certain 2006 to 2011 Model Year IS350, Certain 2010 to 2011 Model Year IS350C and Certain 2007 to 2011 Model Year GS350 Vehicles - 2GR-FSE Intake VVT Actuator Gear

Tow the thing to the dealership and tell them you fear there's upper valvetrain damage on the passenger-side bank. In passing, leisurely mention the recent "repair" they performed on that cam gear; do not point fingers at them telling them it was their fault. That'll get you no where quick; have them come to that realization.

GL man!

Hi Gville350,

I truly appreciate your input! I didn't know it was the part of intake cam gear that they worked on after all. This is so gonna help me out a lot when I talk to Lexus. I got a call from a lady from Lexus today and she will call me back once she hears back from the engineers which kinda sucks. Once I get a call from Lexus again, I will tow it to the dealership and try what you suggested. I not an expert or anything but this incident might have to do with the recent work done on my car cause I only drove 5,000 kms after I got that cam gear replaced. Once again, I appreciate your help.

Could simply be an electrical problem (when a coil goes out the engine demonstrates similar symptoms/noises). However, the recent work that was done on the car sounds like the most likely explanation.

I would flatbed, not tow, the car to the Lexus dealer dealer that did the cam repairs.

^Yeah, when I said tow that means on a flatbed for sure!

With ALL of those different codes being popped at the same time PLUS the noise the OP mentioned, sounds mechical in nature to me.

Keep us updated!

A friend that is a Lexus and Toyota certified tech tells me that they currently have a recall on the camshaft timing gear assembly. It is common on the IS250 engine and they just noticed it on some of the IS350 engine, kind of a hit or miss. Did anyone receive a letter from Lexus about this?

I believe the camshaft recall is for the 350 only. Not aware of any similar issues with the 250.

^I have read on here about plenty of IS250 owners having the same, exact issue. But yes, the recall is only on the IS350...for now.

The "camshaft timing gear assembly" is exactly what I posted a picture of above.

There should be 2 main recalls regarding the engine: cam gear and VVT

The cam gear and vvt come as one assembly, no need to do 2 recalls... If you have the vvt recall done you have a new cam gear as well.

I had this same exact thing happen to me just an hour ago. But mine started leaking some fluid not sure what it was, looked mixed or something. I happened to break down by a meiniki and a guy seen he said I might have blown my motor? Think that's a possibility?

^Find where the fluid is leaking from? When you have the chance, drain the oil and look for fine metal particles in the oil = spun bearing. When you had the noise happening, was it RPM-dependent? What CELs have been thrown?
