burning oil on a is350
Hello everyone,
been lurking on this forum for awhile gaining knowledge from all of you smart folks!
needed some help. I changed the oil on my car and because it was a little colder than normal out, decided to let the oil change go for 8k. I use toyota synthetic 0w20 and was told i could probably go to 10k, so i figured i should be ok.
My concern is that when i drained the oil only 5 quarts came out when i put in 6.5! So this has me a bit worried and upset that i didn't check the oil sooner.
1. is this normal?
2. did it cause any damage not having the full 6.5 quarts of oil in there?

How many miles on the motor? Mine with 76k burns ZERO oil.
i have 80k on it.
i wouldnt really stress it. that much time driving you have to expect some of it to be gone. but at least you didnt check the oil and only 2 quarts came out
i would be so upset I'm so **** about the car lol
0w20 is a very thin oil and may burn off faster... Do you really need such a thin oil? The recommended weight is 5w30 and should be good for use in temps below -30...
i thought about the weight of the oil as well, but the new IS350's are spec'd with that oil and from my understanding the engine has not changed at all? I also read multiple threads over at bob is the oil guy and the difference from a 20 weight to a 30 is not much. I decided to use the toyota 0w20 because it has a bunch of moly and is supposed to help with cold starts. I am going to go back to 0w30 and see how much it burns.
