They're finding things because they're in there looking at your engine. If you only agreed because it's free, you most likely never take it in for stuff you have to pay for, am I right? If you only take it to the lowest-bidder oil change place you're probably never going to know when you have something else wrong until it's too late.

Tell them to show you the leak. If it's leaking you should fix it. Don't pay more than an hour to 1.5hrs labor for the pump since they're already in there. Tell him you'll do the plugs for parts price only, no labor. And why are they recommending the thermostat?
I agreed to having the recall fixed because that was free. I normally take my car in for normal oil changes when needed. I just have not experienced anything wrong with my car like they said there was. I'm definitely going to tell them to show me the leak. They actually quoted be 4 hours of labor even already having it all taking apart. I didnt question when he wanted to replace the thermostat.
i'm in a sales position so every time i meet with someone in sales (service department) i automatically assume there trying to upsell me on services.Which is why its usually hard to believe a lot of these service people. but once again i just wanted to see what other people had to say about dealer "finding" things wrong. i've had my car inspected before by a different lexus dealer before going here, however they did not find anything wrong with the vehicle which is why i was concerned.

however I do appreciate the help on this! haha ill definitely have to look into it myself and get another opinion on it too.

My SA at the dealer told me to start keeping a close eye on the water pump at 90,000 miles, spark plugs need to be done at 90,000 miles! I'm at 87,000 but will be saving for the costly 90,000 mile service. Btw, he said the water pump alone will be $1,000

Your SA is banking off you for an bonus. Water pump labor is about 1.5hr to 2hr max. So $1000 for water pump is a rip off that just me.

I agree with laobo979. The part itself can be bought for $100, $170 max. There's no way it takes 6 or 7 hours of labour, I know because my Lexus dealership had it done in less than 2, and that was for a warranty claim. Keep in mind that if you are still within the powertrain warranty, they will replace it for free.

Yeah thats what im going to do. I actually had my vehicle checked out by another mechanic and there was nothing wrong with it. The water pump i got quoted for parts of $180-230 i believe is what my local lexus dealer quoted me. overall labor for everything was about 3-4 hours.
