Arent you supposed to get the "family" price then? I can guarantee you no one will pay the "Excellent - Private Party" price. Let him post it on Craigslist and after 2 weeks of low ball offers offer him 17K.

I never do business with family, it never works out in the long run...just my 2cents

For all you stating the price is too high, well the OP is in California. Prices are higher here.

Oh man. I traded my 09 with 44k for 17k. I got IS350. but thats a bit expensive. I got IS350 with 55k miles with navigations for 21k in san diego. So I will say buy IS350. If you can find IS250 with cheaper price then go for it.

I'd be content with a IS250. Would be nice to have a IS350 with the additional 100hp, but i guess i'd get it for the "luxury" aspect and the fact that it has the Toyota/Lexus reliability as my current 16 yr old Camry. So def ill be upgrading in the performance dept.

IS350 is much better. I had IS250 and sold it. I used to get 380 miles per tank on my IS250.
Now i am getting about 340-350 miles per tank in my IS350.
Drive both cars. You will know what you want. I didn't test drive both and bought IS250. End up selling it and lost about 8k to 10k for changing cars. IS250 loses its value faster and has carbon issues.

I'll look into it. Assuming I get good deal on the IS250, what other fees do i have to worry about from a private sale? I'm reading you need to pay sales tax at the DMV when you register the car. If they had already paid the registration fees recently, and we do a title transfer at the DMV, how does that work? Sorry if its a stupid question. First time i'd be doing a private sale(if i go through with the purchase)

Ok. If you know the person you are buying from say a friend or family member, or even distant related family, ask them if they can put as a gift so you don't have to pay tax and just the title transfer fee. Option two, if you don't know them, ask them if they can write down the sale value on the pink slip low than the actual sale agreement value. Again, these two situations are depend on the seller and buyer.

good luck.

If it was a 350 then Yea might be worth it, def would NOT pay 18k for 2007 250. And it's a family member? If I bought it i would feel ripped off..

This price seems high for a base model. Look elsewhere. Let him sell it on CL and once he has a bite, offer him the same amount before he sells it. Others on CL will prob offer $14-15k

yes sir you need to pay tax. I paid twice. 1st on IS250 then IS350 within same year. some states charge taxes on the price difference only. but In CA its gonna be full tax. Which is between 8-9%. depends on the city you live in.
I think DMV registration fee is about 15 bucks. i will say you will pay around 1500-1700 bucks.

Don't pay more than 15K on that car. 250 and 350 has 100 hp difference. Not much difference in MPG. Insurance is almost same. IS350 resale value is better than IS250. There are so many 250 for sale but not many 350. Where do you live in CA?

Well if he puts it as a gift during the title transfer I could potentially avoid the sales tax like ivnnln was saying. If I would have to pay the tax, that makes the deal even worse! I'm in so cal, garden grove.

Default 2009 is250 rwd

I just purchased a 2009 IS250 with 64K miles for $17,500. The car is in great shape and had an excellent car fax report and service history!
