Default Can TPMS sensor be programmed to car without being on rim? prob dumb question

I have a set that I ordered on ebay that should work. I would just like to know if toyota or lexus and program them to my car first then I'll goto my friends tire shop to install them. I would have him install now, but on the chance that there is an issue with one.

On a side note since I think we're able to reset the system. If lexus programmed them while they are outside the rim can I just reset the system to be ok with 0 lbs of pressure and keep them in my glove box? I've gotten by my live so far without the computer saying my tires are low

Just read a post where someone said on their Yaris there is the tpms sensor control unit behind the glove box. He has a diagram showing how to shut the system down. Anyone know if there is something similar on IS250? I also see the wheelbarrow option. Anyone try this?

I read that one, that's a great option. Can I have lexus program the sensor to the car first? Or do they need to be pressurized first?

You can program them anytime w a Techstream. The light will remain on until the sensors are physically detected and pressurized.

Techstream is a software but you will also need a cable to hook up to the car's ODBII port. You can purchase the cable on eBay.

OK great, I had something like that with my Audi. It was a cable and plugged from laptop to car. If it can program the the car to the sensors that alone is worth it. Is the techstream freeware or is it expensive?

It looks like one for 29.99 comes with a cd. Others I see don't have a cd in the picture but maybe it's for download. Do you recommend any specific one? The ones that just say Toyota. Will they be fine with Lexus? I'm guessing so. Thank you

I was looking to get a set on Amazon and there they will specifically tell you if the set you are looking is programmed for your car or not.

Might also want to message the seller asking this as they should know this.

Dealership won't do this but what I did was threw all of my tpms in the spare tire and kept it at 35psi. That way you can run after market wheels all day. I also work at Lexus and had my buddy mechanic program it for me.
