Default Changing Oil for first time.. few questions

Well, from my research I have learned changing the oil in these cars is a bit different from normal. I just want to make sure I am buying the right parts...

1. Oil Filter -- Would I be better off buying an OEM filter from Seawell, or something else? If I buy from Seawell, are these the right parts from this page: http://is.sewellparts.com/oem-catalo...S250-2006.html

#04152 - ELEMENT KIT, OIL FILTER (RWD - REAR WHEEL DRIVE)
#15620C - GASKET (FOR OIL FILTER CAP)

2. Oil -- Am I correct in saying our cars use 5w-30? I plan on going Synthetic.. always used Penzoil in my last car. Any suggestions? 5QT should be enough right?

3. Tool -- Is this the correct tool to use for easy removal of the Oil Cap?

Thanks in advance!

what year and engine? Check our manual for oil weight/grade and capacity. An 06 IS 350 takes much closer to 7qt than 5! I use OEM filters but buy from my local dealer as the Sewell one produces a different part number (although likely compatible).

2006, and it's the 2.5L V6

I don't have the original manual.. previous owner did not trade it in with it.

Should I go with the OEM Oil fro Seawell as well?

I recall seeing the discount code for Seawell but don't remember what it is?

OEM Oil filter ($3.95) should come with small and large O-Ring gaskets. I only used the larger one. I would also order some drain plug gaskets. (.83 cents). 5w30 Motor Oil is what I used in my 2008 IS250 calls for 61/2 quarts but I only did 6 quarts to get to optimal level on the oil dip stick. The oil filter wrench I got from Sewell worked OK looks similar to the one you linked. When loosing and tightening the tool will get stuck on the oil filter housing you just got to pry it a little to get it to come off. When you go to loosen the oil filter housing just unthread a little at a time and push the loosened part of the housing up to drain the extra oil in this area. There was more than I thought there would be. Make sure you register your Club Lexus username with Sewell to get the prices shown above.

So this should be good?

Filters: Engine Oil Filter-Oil Filter
Part #: 04152YZZA5 (In Stock)
http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...2006/1896.html

Gasket: Oils and Fluids-Crush Gasket (Oil drain plug)
Part #: 9043012031 (In Stock)
http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...2006/1903.html

Along with the wrench I linked from Amazon, and at least 6 qts of 5w-30?

Oil change is a basic thing, which you asked lots of questions on and you are also doing brakes and coilovers which aren't nearly as simple?
