^^^
If a car dies while running from loss of power - it's the alternator.
If the alternator is healthy, the car will remain running off the power the alt produces.
His car died while it was running.

Same happened with me OP. If I had to bet on what the problem was I would say it was the Alternator. You'll have to replace the battery too. It happened when I was at 59k miles. I have an '08 if you can't read my sig.

boo-yah! Lol .... i'm telling you.. some autozone employees just don't know. these newer models and newwer technology i'm sure some aren't aware. it's not like they go to tech school yearly to be updated on these new models so sometimes what they "think" is usually wrong on old cars are opposite on these newer models... does that make sense? remember, my battery was announced dead with 65% remaining which i find odd that we only use 35% of the battery life. that's coming from an autozone employee that actually checked the battery first instead of charging it and telling you it's a good battery an hour later. yes, it'll be a good battery once you recharge it but i still wouldn't trust it after what i've been through. even if you have to drive from one autozone to another. doesn't hurt and you don't wanna replace things that aren't broken.

So my car just did this yesterday. Power steering went out while driving and car interior lights and gauge cluster began flickering.

Brought it to my indie shop and they said its the alternator.

$165 for the remanufactured one+core from O'Reillys. Does $250 labor sound about right? Is the alternator labor intensive? Does it take 2.5 hours?

It's on the high side for a good shop to charge that, sounds like dealer rate?

Also, for those arguing about alternator vs battery: http://my.is/forums/f221/diy-chargin...attery-426000/
