Default Stretching a bit on winter rims/tires

Current:
255/40/18 on stock 18's (18"x8.5") rims

Considering:
225/45/18 on same 8.5" wide rims
.... Blizzak is currently running these tires for $150 each online, a lot better than the $295 each for the 255/40/18s

.... based on tire calculators that overall diameter is only .06" difference, so my question is, will the 225 on a 8.5" rim be tooooo stretched?

Thanks!

Im running 225 on 8.5 and it doesn't look stretched. Also 225 will handle better than 255 in the winters since it is narrower.

That logic helped justify me initially just trying to be cheap.

I was just hoping it wouldn't look too "stanced" and have the rim dangling out in space.

Haha, no, def not. Sure there is basically no lip protection but the 225 doesnt look stretched at all on my 8.5's. I'd also imagine winter wheels to have a beefier look to them so you would be ok.

Objectively I would have chosen the 225 over the 255s for winter regardless of price.

I am running a 225 on my 9.5 fronts and it looks like this...you should be fine with the 8.5

Old pic when I was just on springs so you can really see the stretch...don't laugh, lol

Good to know, since I just placed the order.

Looks good!
I've got a little more aggressive look to the summer get-up with some stretch too (hard to tell from the photo - all I have at work).....

...but its that time of the year, back to stock.
