Default Exhaust leak, need to replace entire exhaust

The dealership said I need to replace the entire exhaust because of a leak. They quoted me $2400.
I asked where the leak was but those service guys seem to not know much.

I brought it in to a local shop and they showed me its on the Y pipe next to an O2 sensor and that they cant weld a pipe or patch it and they quoted me $2000 for stock exhaust and labor.

I was thinking if I have to drop this much on an exhaust why not go aftermarket. I'd prefer the exhaust not to be deafening. I don't know too much about exhausts but I would definitely like to pass inspection out here in MASS.

Let me know what you guys think on aftermarket exhausts or if I should just get the stock one through the local shop. Thanks

im seeing on ebay some used stock midpipes, coming from california so they shouldnt have too much corrosion. Seems like this seller has several of them but check the mileage of the auction to get a lower mileage one.

You check the classified section to see if any owner in your area is selling their stock exhausts. It is usually less than a 100 bucks. Some members are actually them giving them for free.

If you must go aftermarket and don't want to spend too much, you can pick up a Tanabe for around 600-800 bucks. A used Tanabe will set you back around 450.

Tanabe isn't too loud and it sits in at the quiet group of exhausts. Of course, you can get quieter ones, but they cost ALOT more.

EDIT:

In CA, it should be street legal and pass inspection since it is an "axle-back" exhaust which does not tamper with the cat converter.

Full exhaust system is a no-no.

axel back is too short the leak is far up the exhaust.

But definitely want to know which full exhausts I can have that will pass inspection in mass

Any muffler shop can weld you back up; just needs a good cleaning, grinding, and MIG welds at the very least.

AWD or RWD?

If AWD aftermarket wont solve your problem because only RWD catback exhausts are available. If you want a catback on an AWD you're going to have to get a custom Y/Mid pipe made

It's an AWD.

And okay I'll check a quote from a muffler shop. The shop I was at just said they didn't want to risk the weld because it was right next to the O2 sensor.

I'll also look into that JoeZ

Summit racing has a few O2 sensor pipes for $10 bucks and you can pretty much have any muffler shop bend and weld you up a new mid pipe for cheap or just have them cut out the section with the leak and reweld it in. $2000 is just absurd. I've seen full exhaust from cat to muffler done for a few hundred bucks. Just make sure you get the right pipe size and correct o2 sensor size.

It is very common.I paid 300 dollars for both pipes to be cut and then welded back on. Leaks have started under the heat shield next to the sensors. Now I hear something near the engine.Maybe after 120000 miless these cars are starting to sound different, deeper.Just did my CP and Lexus did not notice it. I did not ask prior to work, thinking they will see any leaks after removing the engine.

Remove the O2 sensor first, weld, then reinstall O2 sensor. Done!

The mechanic actually told me to remove the heat shields because he said they trap snow and causes rust thus leading to leaks
