Default Engine Oil Gone Missing!

So the other day, the "Engine Oil Low" warning came on as I was driving. When I got home, I checked the engine oil dipstick, and indeed the oil was very low. I looked on my garage floor and there were no oil drips anywhere in the area. I went ahead and put some more oil in. It took 1.5 quarts to get the oil level back to normal. The light is now off, but I'm here wondering where did the old 1.5 quarts of oil go? Do you have any recommendations on where to look for leaks or any suggestions as to where the oil is going?

i believe normal oil consumption is 1 qt per 2000 miles (don't quote me). when was the last time you change your oil?

Maybe for an OLD car, but any 2IS SHOULD NOT have such oil consumption issues.

There is a cover under the engine bay that's why you can't see engine oil on the floor.

1.5 qt. of oil would show on the floor, there is no way the under engine plastics will hold that much oil without a spill.

I am leaning towards not enough engine oil was put in during that existing oil change.

But its easy.....just change the oil, check the level after a fresh oil change and then keep an eye on it maybe once a month. This will tell you if it is indeed consuming oil which by then you now know its an engine issue.

Yes I'm pretty sure it was full after the oil change. I watched the mechanic put in the oil. He filled up 6.5 quarts. Strange as this is the first time it's happened to me.

I just refilled the oil. I'll keep an eye on it for the next month or so and see if theres any loss.

But another member suggested something about piston rings. Is this a common problem in the IS?

If this is happening again, take it to the dealer and request for an "oil consumption" test.

Burning more than a quart of oil between oil change is not normal.

I had this issue on my previous car - Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V. Basically, the piston ring did not seat properly which caused cylinder wall to be seared... this caused the oil consumption oil issue.

I am not sure about the IS, but for my Sentra, Piston ring seating properly depends on design of the rings and proper break-in. If you keep going WOT and disregarding the break-in, there is a chance that the rings did not get seated properly.

Im having similar issue, major oil consumption about 1.5 quarts missing 1500 miles after oil change car 06 GS300 awd been using Mobil 1 full synth sinc since maybe 50k miles car has 115k now
this was a gradual thing it used to be 1 quart missing after 2500 miles but over the yrs its gotten worse
... im praying I start having the rough idle thing so it all gets fixed in the recall

Even my high revving S2000 doesn't burn anywhere even near 1/2 a quarter of oil every 6k miles. There is something wrong. Maybe the piston rings were not set properly. Is your car used?

Are you sill under warranty? If so have Lexus fill up the oil to have it documented ASAP...
