Is my mechanic right about the IS350??

Bought my 2006 IS350 2 months back with 124,000km, did some digging before I bought it, one owner, fully serviced at Lexus. Took it to Lexus the day after I bought it to go through all the service that was done. Only issue was cracked mid pipe which threw a CEL light, replaced through the dealer and they told me no other issues to be reported and that all service was up to date. Knock on wood so far so good for me. I do agree I don't think today's cars are as well built but a G35 over a IS350? I bought a Mustang GT over a G35 coupe 3 years ago thats how good I thought they were when I was test driving them. Test drove 5 G35's and one Mustang GT which I bought. I couldn't disagree with your mechanic anymore.

Nissan does not stand behind their products, I had a 2007 Pathfinder that suffered from faulty radiators that leaked antifreeze into the transmission cooling lines. These failures occurred at random to Pathfinders between 50000 and 120000 miles, instead of Nissan doing the right thing and issuing a recall, they extended the warranty on the radiator to 80000 miles even though failures occurred above 90000 miles. Also numerous catalytic converter failures at 100000 miles. Nissan isn't a shadow of what it was in the 70s to early 90s, it's mostly expensive disposable junk.

Toyota has made plenty of headlines over recalls and such the past 3 years, so I can understand people saying the quality is less. It is still best in class (or tied with Honda) for quality. I do recommend avoiding the first year of a model change - 2006 and 2014. Every year after the first, improvements are made to reduce issues. Consumer Reports still rates the IS350 as above average reliability.

But at least Toyota is doing recalls to fix their fawk ups, Nissan just tries to sweep it under the rug, look also at all the heat related advanced degradation of batteries in the Leaf, only after owners threatened a class action lawsuit did Nissan do anything. I can't stress to you folks enough how much Nissan doesn't care about it's reputation, just selling cars with the highest profit margin at the expense of product longevity and customer satisfaction.

got 90k on my 350. i have the service records from the day the was bought even though i was the second owner. car had oil leaking after 5k..... changed through warranty. Seals started leaking aroung 65k lexus covered under warranty. had all the TSIB and recalls done and all i have changed was an alternator spark plugs oil and an o2 sensor. seems reliable to me. guess he had a bad experience with one.

I had an '08 G37 coupe. Believe me...I had PLENTY of issues with it. I bought it new and everything was under warantee, but it was really inconvenient for me to get back and forth to the dealership.
Also, the paint on an Infiniti is crap. If you sneezed on it, it would chip. They called it self-healing clear coat. My car was black and it had more chips and scratches than any car I have ever owned including my Z28 that I owned for 17 years.
I'm loving my Lexus. Still totally flawless. No mechanical issues at all.

Bought mine with 80000KM 2.5 years ago. Now I have 145000KM and I haven't had any issues what so ever (beside recalls). All I have done is oil change and scheduled maintenance.

Same here! Only things I've had to do was replace spark plugs at recommended 60k miles and a new accessory belt. Still on original battery too! Of course, I've gladly brought in the car into the dealership for the recalls; but unlike some, I like the fact of my possible future problems getting fixed.

To help I have a 2007 IS250. I got letters of the recalls before it happened to my car and Lexus fixed it for free. My car did not experience the carbon issue. im at 78k miles, got my car used and my car drives like a dream. I even drove it from california to virginia with zero problems.

Lexus = Japanese made sports/luxury car = reliability with cheap mainenance = cant go wrong.
I have a 2006 IS, had a carbon buildup issue that i never even felt or knew about until my engine light came on, and Lexus did a $7500 engine rebuild/cleaning job. I have a brand new engine now basically, so I would say getting a 2006 is the way to go if you want a dependable car!

as long as the recalls/tsb's were done and the car has been maintained (read service history) then I wouldn't be too worried. My 07 has over 100K on it with 0 issues except a rear window shade motor replaced under warranty.
