Default How to break into your IS with totally dead battery!!

Came back from nearly 4 months out of town to find our IS250c with a totally dead battery-turns out interior light had been left on.

No juice to pop the locks with the fob, so had to pry off the small triangular cover on the drivers door handle and use hidden fob key to get in and pop the hood. Also no access to the operators manual, so was some guess work going on!

Next problem, car was parked in the middle of the garage and couldn't get our other car close enough to jump start Lex. Obviously its stuck in "P", so couldn't roll it back out of the garage. Pried off the small transmission lock cover, pushed down transmission release & into "N" finally got Lex close enough to jump and get it going. Surprised I had no radio issues, had to reprogram blue tooth and that was it.

Even if we don't leave the interior light on, 4 months in our AZ climate would probably flatten any battery, so going to leave a Harbor Freight 600 milliamp charger on next year.

What a cluster, just to jump start a car!

Other than having to pop off the cover on the door handle it was just like every other car out there, doesn't sound like it was too bad, haha.

Basically, your car was dead, and you needed to move it, so you used your key to open the door, put it in neutral and then pushed it.

I'm just confused a bit, what is the point of this thread? You're not asking a question and you're not providing any information, so... ? Venting? Upset?

Sorry, lol, just seems like a weird thing to post about.

Buying a portable battery jumper is a good investment. Should the battery ever die, just pop the handle cover off, use your key shank to get in. Then just pop the hood, hook up the jumper and bam! IT'S ALIVE!

Was thinking the same thing, cause there are definitely threads on how to get into your car with a dead battery. But nonetheless, good job and getting your cars started!! I would've just borrowed someones battery and swapped them real fast to get my car out of the garage, but that's just me.

The sad part is this thread might help someone down the road with the same issue. Not everyone knows that there are mechanical locks on these things and how to get the car out of "Park" when dead.

Maybe there are folk out there that don't know about the pop off cover and the transmission lock-not everyone is as car smart as the folk on this forum.

How many people on this forum know how to do it-say 75%, so if I can help 25%, seems worthwhile.

Some of the tow truck folk out there might take a more aggressive approach to the problem, causing damage.

My lovely wife would have no clue and its her car, but she doesn't read this forum, so maybe you have a point.
