Default Priced too low?

I have been looking for a car to drive my 215 mile a day commute to keep miles off of my 2013 Camry SE which already has over 29k and its only 7 1/2 months old so I found a 2006 250 AWD, the thing is, is that it is less than $11k. Should I expect problems?

why would you do this...the camry gets better gas mileage and can probably take the abuse better.

Lexus has a very high reputation for reliability, but there's still more features in a lexus than a camry, therefore, there's more things that could go wrong = camry is more reliable.

And yes, at 11k you should expect that car to have been in some sort of accident, unless it has unbelievably high mileage which means it wont be a good beat either way.

My Camry is an SE 4 cylinder with Entune, Smart Key, Ultra Suede, sunroof and Blind Spot Monitor. Its the most expensive SE 4 cylinder they had on the lot... Plus 30k miles in 8 months is a lot! My car is depreciating really quick with putting miles on it the way I do. I get about 29-30 average which is a 98% highway, besides 10 miles of stop and go stuff.

And plus, a cheap car like that is something that I won't have to take care of as well and I can beat up on it. I just simply don't want to depreciate the Camry so so quick and kill the value in three years and 135k miles later. But when I traded in my 2010 Camry SE 4 cylinder with nav and all the options, on the 13, I got $12,985 trade in with just under 159k.

So why not buy something better on gas and more reliable? How about a prius or an older camry? I wouldn't recommend buying a cheap IS250 in your case.

215mi a day? You gotta get a better car, friend. That Camry is way more solid then that IS. Probably high miles, some thing. Youll end up paying for service and such. Look, you need to get something that's going to get you to and from your job. If you're looking for something nice that better be your main lady. With a commute like that, you're looking at as your main chick. If you do it. Be ready.

That to much driving get a hybrid. I had an Altima hybrid for a rental once and it got 650mile on a full tank way better than IS and way cheaper to buy used.

I can't imagine you coming out ahead in such a deal.
Purchasing an old car, maintaining it, insuring it, registering it ,etc. - these costs are bound to be higher than the increased depreciation on the Camry.
You might want to run some example numbers before you spring for anything like this.

So you are saying that you would want to put 1200 miles on a new car a week? I have looked into buying a used CT or HS or possibly getting a Prius C but I don't know... How many miles would be on the car to be that cheap?

Huh? Spend $11,000 to buy a car that gets worse gas mileage, plus maintenance and insurance costs for a second car--to save on depreciation? You also have to factor in sooner failure of items that would have to be replaced for wear and tear, since you are starting with more miles to begin with. That doesn't seem to make a lot of economic sense. Where is the "savings"?

Hybrids don't really have much advantage for highway miles.

I don't think anyone "wants" to put 1200 miles on any car, new or old. Sell the Camry, buy a Passat Diesel.

I got the most options I could so I would be the most comfortable during my commute, the gas mileage wouldn't be much worse, considering I only get about 29 in the Camry and if I have a heavy foot, I only get high teens or low 20's. Plus I hate really anything that's not made by Toyota. lol

You can rationalize it however you want; I just don't see how that makes sense. So you put high miles on "new" car? It's really not new anymore, with 30K miles--you are only 6K miles from being out of warranty. You loaded it up to be most comfortable on your commute--so use it for your commute. What are you "saving" it for?
