Lexus is250 Engine Oil
Fellow Members:
I recently purchased a CPO 09 is250. Today I discovered the oil engine is low (the warning light even came on). My question is should I do a complete oil change (the car isn't due for one in about 2k miles) or simply buy some oil and pour it in. I don't know what type of oil is currently in the engine right now (probably stock Lexus oil). Is it bad for the car to mix two types of engine oil? two different brands?

since you just got it i would do a complete oil change. why not start fresh with a new car? I would not recommend mixing different types of oil. the type of oil it needs is listed on the oil cap. 5w-30

The problem is I can't do the oil change myself. I have neither the tool or time. I would have to schedule an appt with the dealer and that mean I won't have transportation in the mean time. Is it really that bad to mix oil? Even if I buy the one recommended in the manual?

Weird that it has low oil all of a sudden. I would change the oil might as well. I am not sure if its a big deal mixing oils but i wouldn't be comfortable doing that. Once you change your oil be checking your dip stick daily to see if it keeps losing oil, if so you might be leaking or burning oil. I hope you have neither well good lick and keep us updated.

For example, if there is 5w30 oil in the engine and you add 5w20, after mix the oil grade may be around 5w25.

I would say fill it with oil to get it back up to normal, then make an appointment at the dealer and have them check it out. Tell them the low oil light came on and you want it checked out. It sounds like your car may be burning off or leaking oil somewhere. You shouldn't be seeing the low oil light at all, especially if the dealer just did an oil change 3 months back.

I would mimic everyone else's sentiments. Do a complete swap, but I would also take it back to the dealership and explain your situation. I'd make them check things out just to make sure it was a mistake and you don't have a leak or any other issues.
No reason to take chances on a newly purchased cpo.
