My 2006 IS250 (RWD) rear driver side cv joint is leaking grease where the axle joins the hub (the boot it not torn). Whenever I drive over a bump or a dip I hear a thump noise. If I drive slow over the bump or dip I will not hear the noise. Would a bad cv joint cause a thump noise? I plan on getting the cv joint replaced but I also would like to know if maybe the noise could be caused by a bad shock. Just trying to isolate the problem. Thanks for the help.

that cv axle can cause a thump noise, especially if all the grease has leaked/ been thrown out from the rotation. now its just knuckle on knuckle

Your best bet is to replace the axle with a reman unit.
