Changed air filter, now car shuts off at start
Hi,
Guys I need some help please. I changed the air filter using this guide: http://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/20...engine/replace
and now when i start the car, it starts but then it shuts off after a second and check engine light turns on. I unplugged the negative on battery for 1 min, still same problem. Put back old filter, unplugged negative on battery for 1 min, still same problem.
Thanks for any help!

Everything looks fine with the MAF cable/connection as far as i can tell. I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and reset battery-- still same problem. Could it be anything else? Is there any way i can get the check engine code without special equipment?
Thanks again for your help guys.

Haha, I actually tried it 3 times.
Any other suggestions? I saw in another thread that someone suggested to try to turn it on with the MAF unplugged and if it starts fine, then that narrows down the problem. Is this true? Sounds dangerous?

it does this when the maf sensor is unplugged, I am certain. I've spent alot of time messing around with the intake on this car, and I can assure you, it thinks the maf is unplugged.
get your codes read to be certain. I think the code has to do with MAF signal out of range or something to that affect.
You'll probably have to go buy a little 49$ scanner at autozone or something.

MAF for sure. Try blowing into the plug and make sure the connectors are clear of any dirt. If that doesn't work you probably pulled a wire loose while unplugging it.

Agreed. While you're at it you should check that everything is clean and in working order. Intake hose clamps tightened and no punctures in the rubber. GL and let us know how it goes.
