Default Brake Pad Sugguestion

I am about to purchase my brake pads, would like to know if I should go with OEM or Centric... only about 16 bucks difference. I am gonna do it myself but might need to resurface the rotor I will take a picture of it later...

Both will work...but if you have to ask, then go OEM.

Is that a deep groove? Sorry the images are not clear. And does the pad looks bad?

Kinda hard to tell, but at the very edge of that rotor there is a good-sized lip on it...then its time for a new one.

^^^^ yeah from the looks of it, resurfacing the rotor will not be beneficial in the long run. Too much have already been eaten of the surface, it will just weaken the rotor and will be prone to cracks because of heat. You might as well invest in some slotted rotors while you're at it. And might as well bleed your brakes and change fluid. Just makes everything easier.

good luck!

One of the first things I did when I got my IS in 2010 was to do the brakes. I went with Centric pads and rotors (front and rear) and they are still on the car now and work perfectly. I did have a squeak a couple of weeks ago but was able to narrow it down to the left rear and fixed it by pulling the caliper and lubing the hardware and pins and lightly sanding the pads themselves and cleaning out the slot. I really like Centric's brakes and will likely put them on my Honda when it's time to change them. I got mine from RockAuto.com, which I order from frequently. A quick search shows me that they get $29 for the front pads and only $24 for the rears, by the way. I did front and rear pads and rotors from them for around $400, if my memory serves correctly.....

I am going to measure my rotor tomorrow and the thickness, what's the safe thickness?

I went to autozone and got a set of Duralast Gold Cmax Ceramic brake pads. I got it because of their lifetime warranty and the reviews look pretty decent.

Minimum or "discard" thickness it typically stamped on the rotor itself. I do believe it is the neighborhood of about 25mm, but you will want to double check me on that. Be sure you check it at it's thinnest point when you use the micrometer. Then assume that it will be cut .002" to .005" past that point for a final clean up cut. To be honest, most places get around $15 per rotor to resurface them and it typically isn't that much more for new rotors and added piece of mind. Running on resurfaced rotors will increase your chances of getting warp and run out, which will cause you to end up replacing them ultimately anyway.

Yes , most shops don't really cut/resurface rotors now due to drop in prices. That's why I am planning to get a new pad and if the rotor can live thru the pad (I guess the pad will used up faster due to the condition of the rotors). Then exchange everything when my new pads about to reach its life.

You definitely don't want to install new pads on your car without either having your rotors resurfaced or replaced......

um... in that case I might buy new rotors because resurfacing could end up bad and warp...

Update: Planning to return the pads from autozone. Planning to get the EBC greenstuff or Lexus OEM which one should I pick? the price is about the same. Most likely going with OEM Rotors or Centric for its price.

I just did oem low dust pads and centric rotors. It's perfect for my daily driving. Your preference can be determined on how you drive your car.

I think I am gonna go with OEM rotors and OEM pads, what's the OEM Rotor part number? it has different ones on ebay and I am not which one is genuine. I know the pad is 04465-53030 for the low dust version. Thanks

No reason not to use OEM low dust. Theyre cheap, oem, and get the job done
