Default Can i purchase a high beam bulb and use it as my daytime running light?

I am new to this forum and just signed up. I got a 2010 lexus last week and would like to change the daytime running light (drl) since it has that old yellowish look to it. I would like to replace it with a LED light 6k watt since those are the whitest and i like the look of it.

However, i can't find an actual bulb to replace it with. I just keep finding pitcures of LED lights where there are a lot of small lights that actually make up the bulb. What i am trying to look for is just an actual bulb. The same thing as the stock bulb, but with a whiter look to it.

My question is can I buy a phillips 9005 standard halogen headlight bulb, that is used for high beams, and use it as my daytime running lights? And also, if people have changed their daytime running lights, which bulbs did u get?

Thanks a lot everyone

You can get a difference 9005 halogen bulb but it wont look as white as the LED will. Your DRLs are your highbeams at a reduced power. Your best bet is to get the 9005 led bulb with a module. VLED and ijdmtoy both sell them

Contact them directly to see what the problem could be. VLED sells the kit as well.

You wont get that white color from any halogen bulb tho

You could try Sylvania Silverstar halogen bulbs. They are whiter than the OEM halogen, but not as white as a true LED bulb. I know that with the Silverstars, you would retain all OEM functionality (reduced output when the low beams are on, normal output when DRLs are running, and full output with the high beams triggered). I'm not sure if LED bulbs would let you keep all of those OEM functions or not.

They wont. LEDs will eliminate the high beam function

Good to know. Losing high beam function in the 9005s is not that big of a deal anyway. The OEM HID headlamps come equipped with bi-xenon projectors, so when you turn your high beams on, the low beam projectors lower the shroud a little more to raise the cutoff line, which then throws more light on the road.
