Tips for installing redouts on a 2009 taillight?
Hey guys,
I've been reading through the forums on how to install redouts for the amber on our taillights but it seems like most cover models 2008 and under. Does anyone with a 2009+ have any tips on how to get this done?
I ordered pre-cut vinyl from MnP Customers off of eBay and have had some trouble getting it on. I've done this in the past on my previous car but the job was a lot easier since the area I was covering was relatively flat. With the 09 IS the shape of the amber area has a lot of curves which gave me trouble today.
I followed the limited instructions but I couldn't get the vinyl to wrap over the top edges without wrinkling... I'm thinking that I overdid it with the heat gun but I'm not exactly sure if that's where I went wrong. Anyone have any tips before I try a second attempt next weekend?

I had red outs on my 2009 IS last year too before I got the whole tail lights tinted with 20% tint. Anyways, what I did was spray the amber part of the tail light with soapy water (I used dish detergent) and then put the vinyls over the amber. The soapy water allowed me to adjust the vinyl easily and once I got it how I wanted it, I used a hairdryer and credit card to get rid of the air bubbles. Hope this helps!

-find a squirt bottle, its the easiest way to apply the soapy water exactly where you need it.
- spray your tail light, spray the sticky side of the redout.
-What I wish I did but did not, make sure you line up the edge that near the trunk, otherwise you might have overlap where the trunk seam is and have to use an exact-o knife to make it have a perfect edge.
-start in the center, and use a credit card to smooth out all the water/bubbles outward. keep going over it till all the water/bubbles are out of the film. there will be a little bit of soapy water remaining most likely, but get out all you can. once it dries, what is left will dry out and not be visible.
simple process really. good luck.

Cool, thanks for the tips. I tried putting the big flat side on first leaving me with excess vinyl on the top which was hard to work with on the corners. Gonna order another set and start from the top this time.
