Default Shift **** won't come off - keeps spinning

Ok weird problem...

I'm trying to remove the shift **** (automatic tranny) and it won't come off. It just keeps spinning and spinning...

I have a f-sport shift **** and don't recall having to do anything special to get it off except lefty loosey righty tighty. Does anyone know why it won't come off or any tricks? Hoping the thread isn't damaged...

Can anyone with a f-sport shift **** confirm/check if inside the **** there are two pieces? One piece is a cylinder that is threaded, and the other is the leather outside of the ****? My best guess is that the inside threaded piece and outer leather shell got separated, and now only the leather is spinning. Wanted to confirm that the shift **** is indeed 2 pieces put together...

thanks in advance

Thanks. I was wondering if there was a plastic insert inside. Even if i tighten the **** it keeps spinning forever

Hm this may work. Did you hear it with a hair dryer or heat gun? And can you elaborate on what you had to do to get it off?

Thanks for the responses

I took a kitchen torch and heated up the bottom. I had cut the shifter down a bit to make it sit lower and it got stuck after that. The shift **** looked rough after i got it off but still useable i guess. Just be careful and cover your shifter plate with something that wont burn.

The inside is plastic. Try turning counter clock wise and pulled the **** upward at the same time.
