Default Seat removal

Pulling out my seats to dye them tomorrow any tips? I've removed seats before but out of an older car, is there anything I should know about the process in the IS? Also any tips from someone who's dyed seats before?

@nikon - google leatherique. leatherique has a series of products that one can use to dye/rejuvenate worn leather. i suppose one could dye darker, although a lot of times people refurbish worn leather.

I'm doing mine from cream to coral red (BMW red), my seats are worn to hell so I figured why not. The process seems simple.. Clean the seats, apply dye with brush or spray, do a few coats and then after 72 hrs buff it with a lint free cloth

This is a strange repair and probably no one has done it. Those are usually two red flag signs. Have you tried to see if there is any warrantable repair for your seats first? I imagine the seats would be very resistant to accepting dye. They likely had years of factory and after market protectant applied. I woudl assume the seat would need to be roughed up, like scratched up to better absorb the dye. Also consider the vented seats. What if the dye plugs the holes of your seat? Could this cause the motor over heat because heat is not dissipating? You are playing with a very expensive part of the car that doesn't sound broken. Sounds like a bad idea over. Maybe a patch from a professional is better solution?

my advice.. replace the seat upholstry instead of dying it. if you dont want to take my advice, dont blow the air bag when disconnecting it.

Uhh, I don't think that's going to happen. Well unless he connects 12v to the wrong pins when he removes it lol.

Well its a pretty common thing so im not sure why theres any cause for concern.. my seats arent vented, nor do i really care about them. If it comes out like crap ill buy a used set, but i want to try a $50 fix instead of a $400 fix first.

Im gonna clean the seats with acetone like instructed then apply 3-4 coats, on the test patch if its having issues i will sand the seats down before going further. Just wanting to make sure the airbag inst going to go crazy if i mess with the seats

To clarify, you have a 2006 or newer IS and do not have a vented seats / heated that I was under the assumption are standard equipment for 2006 and newer? I believe you posted in the second generation forum.

Vented seats are not standard equipment on second generation IS models. They are optional.

This was probably after the 4th coat at night, will get better pics tonight after work and will write up a DIY. AMAZING results though, seriously ive done alot of things to cars, this by far being my favorite. I dont want to hear any **** talk about snatching BMW's red up. I love it, i love the color, and yes i know the car isnt a BMW
