Default parking lights vs DRL

hi everyone!
I have a 2010 2is, and I get so confused when people talk about parking lights and DRL. from my understanding, DRL is same as high beam but at much lower brightness. however, is parking lights the tiny bulb right next to the DRL inside the headlight housing? so far i know DRL is on during the day, and turns off when low beam light is on. how about parking light?

now i'm trying to replace both with LED, but before i can find the right product, i need to be able to distinguish the 2 first. thanks everyone for reading !!

Correct. City lights/parking lights are the small ones next to the DRL. Parking lights come on when low beams are on.

Your correct.

The parking lights also turn on on the 2nd click of the headstalk, when the lights in your headunit turn on.

thanks guys for the reply!

however, if i replace the DRL and parking lights with LED, are they still going to work the same way?

i did a search, and found this thread particularly useful by brociouz!

i'm looking to replace my parking light, DRL, and reverse like with LED. however, the above thread is missing LED DRL and reverse LED (link doesn't work). can anyone with these products help me out ? thanks !

oh and i think license plate light stock is LED already; is there anything brighter than that?

The licsence plate is a very difficult change from my understanding, not just a bulb switch. And as for the DRLs, from what I read you need a DRL "kit" because of power/blinking issues. If anyone can provide more insure I would like to know the answer as well, from my understanding its not as simple as replacing the bulbs with LEDs.

For your DRLS, you need the bulb and a decoder. VLEDS and IJDMTOY both sell similar kit.

Correct. You would have to take apart the trunk lining and solder LEDs in yourself I think

Kind of. Since you replace your 9005 halogen high beam/DRLs with an LED, you will effectively lose your high beam functionality. The LEDs will still light up whenever your high beams used to light up, but they won't give you much functional light (so you sacrifice your high beams for color). This is mitigated by the fact that OEM HID's have bi-xenon.

Thanks for the heads up, I fixed the links in my LED guide. And as 1Clean06IS, leave the license plate LED alone. Totally not worth the trouble of changing the OEM LED to another LED.

iJDMtoy released (a year or so ago) a "slim decoder" that allows you to tuck the decoder/module into the the headlight housing (so no drilling through the moisture shield), but the eV-LED decoders have been small enough to do this with for years now. V-LEDs also recently upgraded their modules such that they do not need relay harnesses even for the more powerful LED DRLs. I would give V-LEDs the edge, but either one works.

Here's the V-LED LED DRL kit: http://www.vleds.com/vehicle-specifi...350-1-kit.html

PS: I'm actually selling my V-LED reverse LEDs and LED DRLs soon. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

The V-LED DRL kit includes a pair of LED bulbs and modules, so you only need 1 order. The parking lights and reverse lights are also sold in pairs so 1 order each for them too.
