Default Poll: Fuel Economy on IS250

I was wondering if its just me or the car's fuel economy ratings are a tad bit over-exaggerated. I was getting 13 before I took a 2 hour total freeway drive and it went up to 16 mpg avg on the little display just about the dials. Is that a reliable source of info about fuel consumption? I'm not driving aggressively either, keep the rpms under 4k (although i did redline a couple of times).

I average around 23-24mpg. It has dropped a little now due to the cold weather here in Ohio and also the additives they put in the gas during the winter months. Yours seems kind of low though.

that's what I was thinking. I saw a post recently of someone who had recently bought IS250 theirs too was about 13. I'm guessing I gotta wait.

^Where in CA are you located? I'm guessing you are in a major city with lots of congested traffic? Your location has a factor on your gas mileage. Previous owner of my car got 23mpg around town, but he literally had no stops & no traffic anywhere in his small town, when I brought the car home I was getting 15mpg city. Since I live in a huge populated city, there are a million stoplights on every street & pretty much bumper to bumper traffic whereever I go, also a bunch of hills where I live! That certainly brings down my gas mileage by a lot, compared to say someone who lives in a more open area.

The numbers in your poll are V8 or V12 numbers. Something is severely wrong with your car or how you drive. I drive 95% city and average 22. Once on the freeway, it jumps to 30. Most people should be getting above 18 with their 250.

I'm on break from college (until the end of this week) and my mpg is floating around 21 or 20 mpg, since I pretty much do city driving on break. My commute to my college consists of mostly highway driving with a bit of city driving and I can average 24 or 25 mpg with grandma/chauffeur driving with my IS AWD.

Redlining the car won't dramatically affect the mpg as long as you drive normally afterward to average those redlines out (as I do those do ).

Those displays can have up to a minus 2-3 mpg for the TANK AVG depending on how you drive. Whereas I find the AVG mpg is usually bang on with only a minus 1 mpg difference, in my experience The best way to check if the they match up is to clear a trip (A or B) when you fill up and take the amount of miles driven (at the next fill up) with the amount of gallons you put into the gas tank (via the pump or the receipt).

If you want, you can reset the mpg averages on the display my pressing and holding the DISP button on the steering wheel until they reset and then you can see if the display can display better averages (which you should take with a grain of salt, as I kind of implied that point with the previous paragraph).

Yeah, those numbers are really low.

Never go by the trip computer, its always lies. Normally its supposed to be more than what your normally getting. My tank average is typically 28mpg but I actually get 23-24mpg driving about 50% city and 50% highway.

I recently took a road trip and my tank average was ~38mpg but I actually got 33mpg.

Always calculate your MPG yourself!

I keep track of all of my vehicles using an iPhone app called Gas Cubby...

My IS250 averages 26.1 MPG (based on actual calculations, not the vehicle display which is always higher than your actual MPG) with about 60% city 40% hwy if I had to guess.

You numbers seem extremely low.

Anything under 18 mpg would mean you might have engine issues to be honest...not even constant hard driving should give you 16....

check spark plugs, intake filter, mis firing of some sort, or Oxygen Sensors...

I drive all highway on my 07IS250 and push around 28 MPG.

If your car is anything below 21 I'd be really worried.

There should be another option for 25+. 19+ is a pretty wide scale. ALL 2IS (350s included!) should be getting 19+.

I have a RWD250 for highway driving I average 650 to 725 Km per tank. Mixed highway and city I typically get 550 Kms per tank. I think there maybe a problem with your car, a visit to the dealership might be a good idea.
