Got crud on your rearview mirror?
My '06 has developed some kind of problem on the back of the mirror glass. Silvering wear? I dunno.
Anyone else had this happen? Know what causes it? Out of warranty, so I guess a new one would be about 8 or 10 grand from Lexus.
Most of it is a strip across the top, but on the right, it runs top to bottom.

YES! I had the same exact issue. You aren't alone. There are a few other members that had the issue too. Luckily for me, I still have the CPO warranty so it was replaced no questions asked. I believe the replacement cost was something like $900 just for the part! Apparently it's because of the auto-dimming feature that this happens.

Just checked on Sewell, even with the CL discount its about $600 for this part alone lol. Crazy. I would have just dealt with it too if it wasn't for the CPO warranty! If it's really bugging you, you can try calling Lexus Corporate and seeing if they will goodwill the replacement for you. It's not a super common issue from what i've seen, but you definitely aren't the only one with it!

I'm assuming it would if the issue really is caused by the auto-dimmer in the first place. The problem is, you have to disable the auto-dimming every time you start the car. Once you turn the car off, the auto dimming enables itself the next time you start the car up. Plus, by the time you start the car up and disable it, i'm sure the auto dimming feature has already started to work anyways. You'd have to disable it some other way (i.e. fuse or cutting a wire somewhere) which will probably disable the built-in compass too lol.

I had similar problem with a 2001 Subaru. I suppose all of these mirrors are made by a few vendors and are made the same. I just lived with it, it's not worth $600 to $900 to me to fix it.

Gentex is the OEM mirror as you may already know.
I got one brand new that I installed in my 93 MR2 tubo. It is exactly the same as my IS350 mirror, but has the outside temperature also.
Here's one for sale on Amazon. I paid $249 for mine. Click the link ---->
