Default Brief Engine Knock

Wow... haven't been on in a few days, but this is super ironic.... Just got mine back from the dealer about a week ago. Mine would have a brief "engine knock" during first start, however if you shut off the car and cranked it again it wouldn't do it. Only on the first start-up would it make the sound, and there was no consistency to it. Mine was covered under the extended 100k warranty. The dealer told me that it was the cam gears/bearings. The had the car for three days and gave me a loaner. While the had it, the replaced both cam gears and bearing, also replaced head gaskets, and intake gasket (idk why). Haven't heard it again and was happy with the work and service. Just glad it feel under warranty. Lemme know if its the same issue.... and the same repairs for you! -Steven

YuP! I think this issue is rampant. Almost as bad as the tranny situation on the Acura CLS...

They have it now and I hope it takes them less than 3 days. They gave me a nice loaned RX but it is too big and likes it drink....

Just letting you guys know, there have been those that have been the "repair" done for this TSIB only to have the rattle/grind pop up again.

I had this work done about 3 years ago and mine is starting to come back. I called Lexus corporate about this since I am out of warranty and they told me that since they already repaired it once and it isn't a recall, they won't cover it to repair it again.

^WOW! I guess that's why as long as mine doesn't rattle/grind at EVERY start-up, I'm sticking it out with what I've got. It's only done it to me 5-6 times since April '11.

they made me replicate the problem before they would fix it ( which i did with a camera) , I found that if i would drive the car for like 30 min and get it fully warmed up, park it for another 30-45 min then start it, it would rattle every time

I dont like these comments about the rattle coming back.... Maybe thats not in all cases! Ill hope for the best! Mine was done under warranty but they gave me a rough estimate of around $4200.00 So glad mine was under warranty otherwise there would be another Red IS350 on the market!!

They put me in an RX350 to, like you said very nice but not for me. Hard to control if you really get on the gas hard!
