Alas, after 4.5 years, I think my 2008 battery is kicking the bucket. Started it up yesterday morning and it took a bit longer to turn over. Then in the evening, it wouldn't start at all. Got AAA over for a jump at 2 AM. With all places closed, I'm anticipating a dead battery in the morning and the need for another jump before I set out to find a new battery.
So I guess the questions are these...
Is 4.5 years about average? My mileage is low (25k), so perhaps all the "sitting" time without the car on has accelerated the batteries' life? I was expecting about five years like my past cars. Two days ago the car sat for two days without use- maybe that didn't help either.
What do these things cost nowadays? Last time I bought a new battery Clinton was still in office.
Is there a specific brand I should look for? I'd like to keep things as close to factory standards as possible w/o spending too much. What does Lexus use and is it worth it?
And the last question is more of a rant. I had no warning (other than the one slow turn-over) that the battery was low. Aren't there some warning lights that alert the operator it's time? Even when the battery was dead the system check in the dash said all was fine. I was like WTH, you call this fine? I can't turn on the damn engine!

4.5 years is past the usual time for a battery. Just take the battery out go to Auto Zone or whatever and get a new one. They usually give you $10 for the old battery to recycle it

Mine lasted about the same 4-5 years. I picked up a new one at AutoZone, it was around $120 (+/-$25). Unless you are running some type of aftermarket sound system just something with close to factory specs should be fine.

Doesn't the Lexus battery have like an 84 month warranty or something? Might wanna check that before going and getting a new one.

Autozone Gold Top 24-DLG (3 year warranty), $110 with exchange. DONE. There is no reason to overwork this.

My battery that came with my 02/06 build date was still going strong in July 2012, but I was going on a six week trip and didn't want to chance it so I changed it out just as a preventative measure. A lot depends on how long you let the car sit, I always kept mine on a Battery Tender which helps longevity.

Walmart & Costco have good batteries, think they are around $90.00 with exchange & warranty. Length of warranty will depend on how hot it gets where you live. In AZ where I live its 3 years, when I lived in WA, it was longer.

Not that I condone this at all, but Walmart has been known to take back pretty much anything they sell for a new, working one... even a battery that is years old

My 2009 IS250 battery died at 53k miles, which was barely out of the warranty so I had to pay out of pocket and install myself. So if you got more than 4 years with that low of mileage, your battery reached its normal lifespan. The battery warranty is 4 years/50k miles, and when you buy a new Lexus battery, it is prorated for 84 months. First 2 years free replacement if it fails, 2-4 years you pay 50% of battery cost plus labor, and after 4 years, you pay 75% of battery cost plus labor for the rest of the 84 months.

The battery in my '06, purchased in the first week of December 2005 is still going strong as its seventh year is just two months away. I credit its long life to the fact that I check and refill all of the cells to the proper mark with distilled water at least once a year.

Use Lexus roadside if your only at 25k they will bring u a brand new battery. Jus don't call from home. I was in Vegas and my batt died at the Venetian and they asked me what was wrong I said dead battery and the dude came up with a new one.crazy part was I had a red top optima in my car and he still swapped it for me and let me keep my optima

Forgot to mention he did bring a multimeter and tested it first to make sure it was the batt.and when he figured it all out then he busted out a new battery and installed it for me.

Got it all taken care of today. Thanks everyone for responding with the info. Battery was toast and the fact I don't drive much didn't help.
