do they need to take out the waterpump? the reason why im asking is because I need to get a replacement soon and I would like to do it while they take the engine out.

Tighter piston ring tension...........meaning the rings are pressing slightly harder on the cylinder walls......... =less blow-by gas in the crankcase and less oil going through the crankcase ventilation system=less carbon on intake valves and piston tops.

Now why wouldn't they do this to begin with?? Engine engineers try to have the least amount of ring tension as possible. less ring tension means less resistance = better fuel economy and power.....as well as engine life. And they got it right......only the absence of fuel coming from port
injectors has caused issues......but only on cars driven in certain conditions. vehicles that are generally driven harder and hotter are a lot less likely to have carbon issues.

The difference in ring tension is so minor that there's no real difference in economy or power....it's just enough to keep the blow-by at a lower level.

5 more small bolts and the water pump will be separated from the timing cover....which will be removed. they should be able to do it either free of labor or .5 hours at the most.

I got the letter several days ago...
just want to make sure about the 9 year coverage.....

so my car is a 06, does that mean this issue only covers me till 2015?
or
if i took it to the dealership, diagnosed, they took into the shop, and fixed it lets say today
does that mean it covers me till 10/01/2021???

if so, it probably means its a reoccurring problem?

9 years from the in-service date of that specific car... which for a 2006 could be anywhere from mid-2005 to fall 2006 (or later if it was a leftover).

Like Kurtz explained, check your in-service date (should be able to find it on the drivers door jam) and your warranty will expire 9 years from then. If you take your car for repairs during the 9 years, no it doesn't extend your warranty for this issue another 9 years again. You still only have the warranty for 9 years from the date on your door jam.

Holy crap! I do not want to have that done to my car.

I dropped mine off at Lexus yesterday. The carbon build up issue wasn't that bad on my IS. I've only had the vibrations a few times but it doesn't happen everyday. My dealer was able to duplicate the problem so they have started the repair. In the mean time, I'm driving a very nice and new 2012 RX350.

Exclamation

I got this letter the other day also. I have an '06 IS250 AWD with 140K miles. I've felt this issue a few times at idle or coming to idle.
Not sure if it's worth it tearing up the car and trusting some dealership mechanic to put it back together
What's the warranty after they do this CSP?

That's a good question. If your powertrain warranty is over and the tech butchers the engine, what recourse do you have?

I think if anything breaks because of this CSP repair, it would still be covered by the 9-year warranty under this CSP. Probably not a bad idea to ask your dealer or corporate.

Do I need to have the letter in order for me to get this repair for free? Or can I just bring my car in for it, and if they can duplicate it, then the repair is free?
