It could cost you more going with the insurance claim. Lots of insurance companies consider that type of incident a collision and it will count as that on your record and may raise your rates. You also need to consider your deductible compared with the cost of the parts you want to upgrade to.

thanks for the reply, we have a $500 deductible, and insurance said that this falls under a road hazard.
