Default Steering Problems On Freeway Help Please

hey guys i need your help...

My car ran perfect for years up. Then, this week I changed my rear tires and am running 245/40/18 instead of the 255/40/18. Everything is fine with the car at low speeds and straight lines. When I am on the freeway taking slight turns, the car momentarily becomes a little unstable. When I am turning into a turn, it's OK but half way through a turn the car will feel like it "sways" for a second. Kinda like when you tip water in a cup in one direction it sloshes against the side and then returns to normal.

This is my 06 is250. Only a mild drop on megan ez. Running two different tire brand for front and rear.

Is this the same problem as this guy?

Let your new tires break in first..
With new tires you need to drive easy the first 500 miles.
When I got new tires it felt unstable at first then after breaking it in.. its fine now

Edited - you should of got stock size and 4 new tires instead of just 2 with different brands of tires ( I assumed)

I have 2007 IS250 awd with 68K and had unstable steering after replacing two tires. They placed the new tires on the rear and the older tires on the front. This is typically recommended for most vehicles. I have found that if there is more than about 2/32 tread difference the vehicle drives much better if you have the tires with the deepest tread on the front. In my case I had new tires on the rear 10/32 and older tires on the front 5/32. My car was very difficult to control and almost dangerous to drive on roads with seams or slight imperfections. My alignment was not an issue at all. Put the newer tires on the front and it will make a huge difference!

That's what I was thinking. Maybe just give it a little time. We'll see what happens...

As for putting it in the front fergis250, I can't. Staggered.

thanks

What tires do you now have in the rear?

Check the air pressure also as this can cause the same issue.

I hope it is a simple air pressure issue for your safety.

Is your car awd or 2wd? If 2wd the tread depth variance front to rear should not matter. I also started doing research on installing a steering dampener like they use on the is350 and isF models. I was down to a couple things to try: Rotate, alignment, install dampner, replace my other two tires with new matching ones.

There has been a lot of known issues for steering between 06-08. Try breaking in your tires first. If that doesnt fix it, take it in to the dealer right away

Fergis it's the rwd model

Checked the air pressure cold and it was 37 psi. I'll break the tires in and see. Odd that I change the tire and this happens. It ran perfectly until I changed the tires.

When this happen to me, I concluded that it could only be because either I didnt break in the tires well enough or the tires suck. Reading reviews for the stock is350 fsport summer tires, people said it doesnt do good in wet surfaces at all. A lot of understeer and hydroplanning.

wow, im with Hoac on this one...this type of issue (losing control) shouldn't be happening on a $40k car. Im worried about smashing mine right into the wall, but more importantly about getting injured. Paranoia? Heck yeah!

Yea it looks like it might be the tires. We'll see on the break-in. Since this was my stock crap set I opted to go with some achilles tires which were cheap. I'll let you guys know!

Be safe and drive slower. Hold onto the wheel more.
