Default Ipod Nano not working in USB port

Hello, I am new to the forum. I own a 2010 IS250 AWD with nav.

For the past 2 years I have been operating my older generation iPod nano though the USB port and have had no problems. I have not recently updated the software on the nano. I took the nano out of my car for a weekend (to use on a road trip in another car), when I returned the nano to my car, it does not work.

The screen recognizes the nano (and the usb tab is highlighted) and shows what song is playing, but does not play sound. The Nano itself says "Ok to disconnect" but shows the song that is playing. I've tried using a different USB cable and using my iPhone 4S as well...it does not even acknowledge the iPhone (or recognize it to even charge the battery on the iphone).

Has anyone else had problems with this? I'm taking my car to the dealer tomorrow (to have a tire repaired) and I am having them look at the USB. Just wondering if this is a lost cause....or what can be done.
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!
