Aftermarket or DIY keyfob
So I am looking at buying a 2012 IS350. I've done a pile of reading here over the last few weeks and it seems like a great community of people that really love their cars. (o:
My question at the moment is, has anyone ever modded their keyfob, to reduce size/weight? I hate having pocket bulge and I don't see the need for carrying a physical key. Also, already there is a very fancy microprocessor in my pocket that has many many ways of communicating wirelessly. Perhaps it could play a roll?
Does anyone know details about what frequencies or protocols the fobs work on? Has Lexus considered using cellphones as access devices? Yes, there are security issues. There always are, and they extend far beyond the world of cellphones right into your pocket with chipped banking cards and keyfobs.
Anyway, that's the jist of it. (o:

the only option I believe you have is getting the smart card from sewell
http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...2012/1860.html
but as far as cell phones goes Viper offers an alarm that you can use for your car I think I've seen one member with this

I have the smart start. Love it. Although the other weekend when people wanted to see it in action it locked me out for 20 minutes. I think since it was midnight they were messing with their servers. But all in all I love the viper smart start.

Oh yeah, I remember reading about the viper stuff a while ago.
I am Canadian and work a lot in the winters doing shift work. When I get off the plane from work my car is outside. I would be mega sweet to fire that puppy up when the plane is landing. (o: The rest of the time my car is parked in secure heated underground parking. =p
How well does the viper system handle door locking? Can you get a bluetooth module to directly interface, or does it always have to be 3G? Anyone in Canada try this system out?

Also, I heard the viper system wasn't giving feed back to the status of the car.
When you start the car remotely does the system reply with an "I'm started" message now? I haven't looked at this in a year or so but I remember there were issues with that kind of thing.

So I asked the dealer what they used for remote start stuff.
They came up with this:
http://www.astrostart.com/Products/S...t/FMSC250.aspx
Same stuff as viper and omega by the looks up it. Difference is the dealer does the install, and warrants against any electrical issues etc... which is nice. I have heard lots of horror stories about f-ed up installs before.
Does anyone have first hand experience with Astro's SmartStart service?

Well I made a post then it told me I suck and lost it all.
Pricing is hard to find. It's all the same **** though, so use who you trust, or who provides good install warranty. For me this is the dealership because the install guy is a wiring **** and they warrant everything 100%.
The app is the same, regardless. Check it out.
The brands that use directed are listed here

If someone stole my phone I would be F-ed. Except I use Avast. It is reasonably good at remote phone tracking and wiping and is very stealthy. You need to be rooted though...
But honestly, if you are using your phone at this level you need to be smart about it. Remote wiping and persistence of the ability after SIM changes and factory resets is a must.
