I spent 10 minutes reading this and then 5 minutes doing the actual engine airfilter change. Thanks for the instruction here. What I would add to:
1. My car is newer so I don't have the clip drop problem (?)
2. I would need a vacuum handy to suck out the debris on the bottom haft of the box.

Sooo what happens if I changed my cabin air filter without referring back to this guide while doing so, did not do the important step to put the car into recirculation mode, pushed on the accordion looking cover that I saw when I opened the compartment and heard something snap? Now even when I switch back and forth between the modes the accordion cover doesn't move to reveal the air filter frame behind it. Did I break something? Is it fixable on my own or do I now have to take it to the dealer?

I realize the original post is over a year old, but I just wanted to say thanks for not only the write up, but also the pictures. I just recently bought my IS250 second hand and felt I needed to change the cabin filter for peace of mind, with your DIY instructions and photos, it was done in 5mins!

So thanks again.

To repair that part of the system they need to replace it and to replace it they have to remove the dash and a bunch of other crap which takes time. Hope you have a clearer picture heh. I'm only going by what he told me and what I've read around here and other forums. Bottom line is don't forget to put it into recirculate mode.
yep I broke mine years ago not knowing! Luckily I got them to cover it under warranty after some fight . Lol

Just followed this and it worked great. Well done and thanks.

My replacement air filter from Sewell had different "ribs" than the original. It still fit ok and seems to be working but not sure if anyone else has seen this.
