do I need HID kit with 2012headlamp kit?
Hey guys, so I just got myself an 09 sgm is250 and loving it! One of the first things I wanted to do was to change out my headlights to the 2012 headlamp kit from sewel. i really like those LED strip Daytime Running lights.

Now the car I got didnt come wit HID just halogen headlights, so the 'loaded' kit is my only option. What i was thinking was to getting the 'stripped kit' and changing my halogen to HID also. seems to be cheaper that way.
would i need to also buy a HID kit? what would you guys recommend? or can i just buy the wiring ballast, bulbs separately. im assuming the housing from the headlamp kit works with HID? Anyone help would be much appreciated

Welcome to CL. Nice to have you here on our forum.
Halogen bulb size is H11, HID bulb size is D4S.
So if you are gonna go with stripped set, you definitely would have to get a D4S HID bulbs.
Because as you know there is no bulb and ballast comes with that package.
But, since your headlight is halogen, you might need different option and get a H11 HID bulbs.
Always check before purchase. Mostly people here bought the stripped set and took out the OEM bulbs and ballast(HID) and plug right in.
This is where I get my bulb:

If you are ready and would like to install, here are the link for the installation:
(This is loaded set which only require headlamp braket modding)

Here is one of the CL member retro fit the stripped set's little guidance?

Remember, the headlamp set comes with the flasher relay so you don't need to bother buying one.
That replay is to help your turning signal speed keeps normal, since 06~10 model has two turn signal light on both headlight.
In addition, if you are gonna buy one, use the promotion code to get $600 discount before September 03.

Yea your only option is the loaded version. Reason being is that the LED headlamps are factory HID equipped and the stripped version doesn't come with the D4S bulbs or ballast. You would need to transfer from your old HID headlamps over or buy a pair of bulbs and ballasts seperately.

thanks guys for the help and welcomes.
But cant I just convert my halogen headlights to HID using a converstion kit? I believe they come with the ballast and D4S bulbs. then get the 'stripped' kit and install it wit the "after installed - new" HID. or does it not work like that?

Also let us say you do manage to get the HID kit you bought to work on your halogen lights to work on the 2012 lights you'll have the issue of the mounting hole for the HID ballast on the 2012 lights as they are part of the housing and basically seal the housing once they are mounted.
I for one can tell you there are ways around this as I've done it but you have to be handy to do it.
