Running a taller tire profile
Hey guys.
I've had my IS350 AWD for almost a year now and one of my not so likes is the amount of tire noise that gets into the cabin. I've swapped out the standard tires that came with Michelin MXM4 but no joy. Thinking of running a taller profile 225/50/17 or 225/55/17 (I know speedo will be off) to quite things down a bit. On textured road surfaces it sometimes gets pretty loud and distracting. Any thoughts? Issues with fitting?
Thanks.

moving from a 50 series to a 55 series will only increase your sidewall height by 11.25mm OR .45 inches. i feel like this shouldnt cause any clearance/fitment issues. go out to your car with something that is roughly .45 inches and put that atop your tire, then rotate it around your tire and see how much clearance is left.

Yeah speedo will be off. Willing to live with that. Once the threads get low I'll switch to Continentals DWS. Hopefully, I'll have a better experience with them.

Increasing the sidewall height is NOT your solution. That will only put MORE tire on the road. Side effects include inaccurate speedometer reading, reduced fuel economy, and potentially MORE tire noise.
I swapped out the pathetic Potenzas (Really Lexus? A 140 treadwear fragile Summer rated tire on a $40k car sold in New England???) for a set of Kumho Ecsta 4X's (Model KU22).
Road noise is nonexistant and I've gone up almost a mile a gallon in fuel economy to boot. 420 treadwear in an all season pattern should mean at least 55k miles out of them. Wet traction is still the same. Dry traction feels the same as well (I don't bomb around like Ricky Racer).

Hey I have an IS250 AWD. I have these tires at 225/55/R17 theres very minor rubbing in the front it can only be heard when breaking hard into a turn or sometimes when making a U-turn. It's very minor rubbing. Ive had these for a year now, definitely noticed a better quieter ride than the stock tire and these have a lot of grip wet or dry. I'm glad I bought these tires!
Look into them!

After I wear these to the ground, I'll switch to Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
