Default Rear Caliper pins seized up - Dealer says it's not covered...

Hey there - quick question.. is the rear Caliper seize up issue covered under the 70,000 mile power train warranty?

I'm out of the regular warranty and trying to change my rear brake pads... of course the things are seized like no other and lexus is telling me "sorry Man not covered"..

While Lexus got a lot of things right on this car......tiny stuff like this really makes me hate the car.

I got the same problem as you a while ago, and the dealer said that is not covered under powertrain warranty too. Also they refused to let me pick up my car unless is towed, "because of safety issues". FML, cost me 800 bucks.

Ps. I'm up in Canada, Idk if it make a difference, GL

Well that's disappointing. Amazing that a company like Lexus can't make a darn rear brake caliper that doesn't freeze up, yet my 1993 ford bronco with 140,000 miles on it (that I bought for 1000 buks) has never had a problem with calipers.

Yes, mine had the recall done back in 08. It obviously didn't fix the issue.

It's ok, I just got two from rock auto - it'll be 80 bucks after i send the cores back

I had this same thing happen and the dealer replaced it for free.
That said, it was covered under the 50,000 mile warranty as indicated on my repair work paper(s)

Interesting, what side of the rear? My driver side rear was also seized when I tried to replace my rotors.
I had one of my guys at the shop fix it.

Yea that happened to me too while replacing pads at about 40K. Dealer replaced it under warranty and billed Lexus under warranty.

I had this happen to my IS250 when changing the pads too, I used a pulley to pulls out the caliper pins, I regreased them and they where fine after that. I always regrease the caliper pins when I change my brakes anyway to avoid future problems.

Warm up the caliper with a Torch, it will expand the caliper bore, the Pin will break free from its "seized" state, and you can then clean out the hole, re-lube and re-assemble as necessary.

Calipers like state above are not Power train.

I work with stuck calipers at work ALL the time, easy to free-them up... just have to use a torch...

Good luck.

Caliper replacement is not necessary.
