Default Is this coolant hose supposed to connect to something?

Picked up an f-sport intake from a fellow member and am in the process of installing. This is my first time under the hood on my IS350, so not exactly sure what things are supposed to look like. One thing that caught my eye was this coolant hose that appears to connect to nothing Is this supposed to connect somewhere or is this just for overflow? I can clearly see that the other hose connects to something....

Thanks!

Haha, glad I wasn't the only one who didn't know about this.

If it starts duping out that hose, most of the time there is a problem.

I'll keep an eye on it. I was just wiping the covers down and took the front off to inspect the intake snorkel and noticed the hose sitting there.

Yep, was going to ask about that. I have some pink crud on the fan and a bit under where the hose sits. I guess not a big deal

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but my IS350 overflowed some coolant out that hose when I took it to the track. The water temperature and temperature gauge were normal the whole time, topping out at 203°F but somewhere in the 190°F range most of the time. It does not overflow under normal driving. Any idea what might be causing that? Is it normal or something to be concerned about?

Under hotter than normal temps these motors tend to push coolant out the overflow tank/lid. Thus the pink crust around the lid/container lip. It's not a headgasket problem, as MANY experience this "problem" yearly over the summer months. During the winter months I've not had to clean off any coolant; but do expect to soon with temps reaching into the 80s already.

Perhaps you should start to use some Red Line water wetter on top of the coolant :

Also, what coolant do you use or what mix?

Is your radiator clean from debris? Anything blocking the radiator?

This is the first all aluminum radiator I've seen for the Lexus IS350 specifically; perhaps worth checking out.

Sorry for the extremely slow reply. I actually replaced the cap since it was leaking out of there too. The new cap seals much better and now it just comes out of the overflow hose. My Blackstone oil analysis just came back with no traces of coolant in the oil which was a relief. So you think adding redline will reduce/eliminate the overflowing coolant? I guess it is safe to mix with Toyota fluid and won't hurt the cooling system? I finally got around to rigging up a longer hose and vented catch bottle so I can measure how much coolant I am losing and pour it back into the system if needed. Was able to get it to overflow a little by driving hard on the street:

It seems to overflow much less when the coolant is at the low line than the high line (measured when cold). Not sure if that is a good/bad thing.

I'm just using stock Toyota antifreeze. Will replacing it with fresh fluid help? I see it is on the 120k scheduled maintenance that I have coming up but it seems odd that it would ever need to be changed out.

Is there a way to check the inside of it visually since the radiator cap is on the engine block rather than the radiator? The outside is clear.

Before your track day(s), get yourself some of that water wetter and use that catch can to see what all comes out. Fill the overflow to in-between full and low.
