Question Oil Leak After Oil Change at Garage

Hey everyone, I have a 2007 IS250 and yesterday did an oil change (the oil maint redq soon message came up on Monday), oil filter change and air filter change at a garage.

6 quarts of 5w-30 oil were put into the car.

I did ask the guy if he wasnt going to grease the oil filter and he said no. That oil change was done at around 6:00 pm eastern time yesterday.

Now this morning i.e.10 minutes ago I discover an oil leak.

What do you guys think is the problem?

Should I watch this leak and see or take it immediately back to the garage?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

It might not be an oil leak, could be oil that is just residual from when the old oil was removed from the oil pan or oil filter that is dripping from the frame or other crevice in the engine bay.

Now if it was leaking most likely its the drain plug or oil filter not tight enough.
If you didn't bring it to Lexus the shop probably reused the oil drain plug and washer.

I wouldn't expect any residual from an oil change to make any noticeable oil on the ground that resembles a leak.

And why do you suggest Lexus replaces the oil drain plug/bolt? that bolt is meant to be reused.

Find the leak and go from there, just be sure to check/top off your oil.

If the gasket/washer is resued, that could be it. I would check that.

He didn't state the amount of oil on the ground but in my experience any amount of oil on the ground is not good. Oil could have been sitting on the skid plate.

Lexus and other manufacturers usually always atleast change out the washer/gasket.

Its gotta be ur oil filter. u probably broke the seal ring. thats the only place it can leak from if ur pan bolt is still good. check the ring, lube it when putting it back it make it turn smoother and turn slowly until its tighten.

Hi everyone it was the oil filter the idiot said and I quote "I didnt see a seal in the oil filter box I knew it was supposed to have a seal but i didnt see one so I just put it on without it."

He then goes into the empty box and sees the seal.

He took out the oil filter and put on the new seal and something else that was also in the box I saw no leak and I left. He also added more oil to the engine after putting the seal on 1 and about 3/4 of another 1 quart bottle i.e. 1 3/4 quarts more oil into the engine after the initial 6 quarts yesterday.

Now for the really bad news after leaving the garage and driving for about 20 minutes I hear a loud sound coming from the engine and now another mechanic has said it seems the main bearings i.e. crankshaft bearings are damaged.

I am really sad and now I have to have my car towed to my original mechanic to have it fixed.

Every 10 minutes especially when accelerating there is an extremely loud noise.

Here is a pic of the overnight oil leak and I am going to record and upload a audio file with the sound the engine is now making.

Oh geez man that sucks. I was hoping was not a leak, just residual oil on the skid plate.

Make sure the same mechanic is not working on your car again as you have to take it back to them to be fixed.

Can anyone point me to an auto parts store that would have the crankshaft main bearings and connecting rod for a 2007 IS250?

http://is.sewellparts.com/oem-catalo...S250-2007.html

Doubt a local auto store would sell these parts, probably have to purchase at Lexus dealer.

Is your warranty over?
I would have the shop pay the costs to have it repaired at Lexus.

Dude messed up your car and admitted he put the oil filter on without a seal? Something NO mechanic would do? Take your car to a Lexus dealer, get an estimate for repair and forward it to him for payment. Seriously. If he doesn't pay, i'd take it to small claims court.
