Default Weird noise when turning off car

Hello everyone
It has been a long time since this problem had appeared (~1 year at least)
everytime I turn off my car, there will be a weird sound coming from the engine bay

Finally I went back to Lexus and asked them to do a check up
found out that its the Alternator that is making the noise
Dealer quoted me for around $875 for the fix

I later went to pepboys for a second check
they say its either compressor or alternator (just a quick check tho, probably doing a more detail check tomorrow morning)

here, have a clip I just took (sorry for the bad quality tho)
http://youtu.be/WoTy8BJ1am8

did anyone also occurred this same problem??
If it is the alternator, I will just plan to do a DIY then...

Thanks for the input

Does it sound like clunking/knocking? Does it do it randomly?

If its the same noise I'm thinking (can't see clip, until I'm at home), then it's possibly the cam gear TSB. Did you notice if it is also doing something similar on engine start up as well?

Yeah, that's definitely not the Cam Gear TSB.

Doesn't sound like an alternator...sounds like a pump. So I'd be leaning towards the A/C compressor. Sorry.

Just got back from pepboys
apparently its the Alternator making that noise

Also I have a question
are rwd and awd using the same alternator??
part number 270603106284

now i would like some feedback
and i prefer doing it myself on this one
-getting the OEM from sewell ($407)
or
-look on ebay for used OEM parts (price varies)
or
-just give it to pepboys on this one (670 parts and labor total, Prostart remanufactured alternator)

Thanks for the input

Alternator can't be that hard of a fix. I'd go with Sewell.

I cannot remember, does the alt have a single belt or is it part of the whole accessory belt? I was gonna say remove that belt and see if the noise goes away; but if it is attached via the accessory belt that'll not be recommended.

wow an old thread from the past!
I bought a used alternator unfortunately I never got to do it but it's still running strong!
It's either I got used to it or it just went away
