Default New to this Site and Just Bought a 06 IS350... Warranty Questions...

New to this Site.

Just Picked up my First LEXUS Today....

1: 2006 IS350
2: RWD
3: Crystal White
4:18" Silver Stockies
5: Spoiler
6: Tan Interior
7: Just Navigation, Non-HID's Sigh
8: 82,800 Miles, Came with Extended Warranty yet to be transferred but Seller said he would by tomorrow...
9: Paid 18,760 CASH...

Is that too much for a Car with that much miles?

7 year 100k/2014 Extended warranty.

Also The Window trimming on the outside of the door is starting to peel, Will that be covered in my Platinum warranty???

Also I wanted to change my Timing chain before my warranty runs out..

I want to get everything done before I hit 100K which will be soon because I drive this daily.

I've already drove it everywhere today (tag office) Emissions.

Any Advise or Tips, on what I should Replace before 100K so I wont get raped after my Warranty runs out? Thanks All help will be appreciated...

Bare with me since I am new to this site and owning a Lexus...

Welcome to CL...Some of the ONLY maintenance we need done to our cars are. oil and oil filters, air filter, cabin filter, brake pads, and brake fluid. You won't need to replace the chain like it's a timing belt. You should find out if the car has all the recalls done also. Post a picture and what mods you plan to do if any.

Dont know what most of these mean... Before I bought the Car, I called Lexus and see if all Recalls were done, and they said they were up to date... 1 minor 3mph accident but bumper was replaced with OEM at Nalley Lexus of Smyrna.. I wasnt too **** about the small accident as long as no Frame damage or any other damages...

Since IS250/350 use timing chains when is a good time to change them.. I would like to do all the extensive work before my Platinum Ext-Warranty runs out...

All in All my Opinion about this IS350. It just needs a Clean Engine bay DETAIL. and Leather needs to be reconditioned...

The Tan leather is showing age since it is a 06... Im going to try to find some clean or mint TAN front seats...

Drivers door panel needs to be replaced Just Wear and Tear, Needs a Set of new Floor mats and Possibly good Steam Cleaning... Other than that.. It runs Great.

Bought it from an older guy in his 40's... He really took car of the outside. Just needs TLC on the inside...

Anything you may have please throw out there...

I know Spark Plugs is about 60K, Oil and Filter (regularly), Cabin Filter...

I would like to know the BIG STUFF that People regret not doing when they have already ran out of Warranty that COSTS $1000 plus... I would like to get all these things done before my warranty runs out since I am a student, and work part time, and I know well enough that I cant afford anything MAJOR to go out on me... please Chime in...

All Help and Advise would be greatly appreciated.

Too dark to Post pictures... I know all about the regular maintenance, since I've owned a 04TSX which was totaled out in NOV, got a Check for 13200 saved 6k within 4 months, found the IS350 last week. Bought it Today and got it TAGGED...

It came with F-Sport Intake. (going to Replace the Filter)

Future mods:
Full Coilovers
Full GFX Lip Kit or INGS
Wald Rear Spoiler
Hopefully fit xxr 521 18x10 22+ all around... If they even fit...
Add HIDs
Just keeping it simple..

But now I'm Broke. But I have a Fully Paid off IS350....

I feel great to be a owner and I love it. I would never go back to HONDA/ACURA scene again lol!

I had to pay 20 for Tag and 20 for Registration, and 20 for Emission. Close to 18820.. Private Seller wouldnt budge any lower since he wanted 20200...

I just want to know all the major issues that IS350 have besides the RECALLS... I would like to get everything TOP notch before I drive the hell out of this Car.. This will be my Daily. So miles will go up fast...

I will keep regular maintenance, I just want to know any prolonged problems that will cost me a lot when it hits 90-100K...

In short words, I want to use this warranty and make my Money's worth on Buying this car...

thats a great price on the car, i paid 24.5k myself for my 06

as for the mileage might be a little on the high side, but looks like the car has a lot of services performed!

But couldnt some of the services he's done be bad, Meaning the Blacksheep of IS350s? Like lots of Touch up paint applications... They wont tell me where its been done.... and I surely sat here looking at it and feeling the body panels for any overspray or touch up paint application.

Good price. I'm pretty sure the is350 has a life time timing belt.

Dont Timing chains need to be Tightened. After long periods of time they do wear.. Just like Bike chains.... LMK

Only color white i would ever get! Interested in the wheels you are after.. Cause i am partial to gunmetal or even black LC 818's!

I guess while we are on it, i have an 06 out of warranty... wanted to at minimum get my alternator fixed to address the wine? (via TSIB) With no warranty, am i in luck? I would guess noT!

The 2IS uses a timing chain (not belt).... 3 of them actually. They are good for the lifetime of the car and require no work whatsoever.

The only things the car actually needs for scheduled service:

Every 5k: Oil and filter change (see below on that)

Every 15k: Check air and cabin filters and clean if needed (do this yourself, takes 5 minutes)

Every 30k: Change air and cabin filters (again, do yourself); Also change brake fluid- though I recommend doing this every 2 years if you won't be driving 30k miles in 2 years.

Every 60k: Spark plugs

Every 100k: Coolant.

That's it. Anything else is the dealer BSing you. Never, ever, ask for the "x miles" service, just ask for the actual work you need done.

It's unfortunate the previous owner let the dealer turn his rotors- that's just a waste of rotor life, so you'll probably need new rotors sooner than you otherwise would, but hopefully they at least did a clean job and you'll be good for a while still.

Only common warranty issue on the 06 350 I can think of would be the cam gear rattle on cold start (you can search and find videos with sound of it)...not everyone gets the problem though... and maybe check the water pump to insure it's not leaking.

Also looks like on 4/16/11 the owner declined a recall repair- not super clear which one- if it's the accelerator pedal you can probably ignore it- if it was something else might wanna go back and have it done.

Anyway, as regards oil changes- the book says every 5k.

In real life every used oil analysis I've ever seen on a 2IS says that's too often for anything but the most severe/brutal duty driving (ie only short trips where the engine never warms up, or lots of excessive idling).

7500-10k seems just fine for conventional oil changes. Synthetic could go considerably longer, but the OEM filter seems about done by 10k... so you could run something like Amsoil for 20k but you'd want to change the filter halfway through. As always used oil analysis is the best way to be SURE the OCI you use is good for YOUR car and YOUR driving conditions.
