We just had the 10k service on our 2011 ISC 250. Next Due Oil change service is at 20k.

Who does the in between maintenance service? I will change my AIR filters, Cabin filter, remote batteries etc.

Is 15k service a waste of time? All these "Inspections"? I mean my tires cannot be rotated etc.

Not worth it. Oil, cabin, air filters, Brake fluid(60k) ate all that really needs to be done. Kurtz is the expert on the intervals but I wouldn't do it.

Even if you do have the warranty there's no reason to ever ask for, or pay for, the "X miles" service as they do the same actual work and charge you 2-3x as much for it as if you just asked for the items that actually need to be done.

Which are:


Every 5k: Oil change ($50 at my local lexus dealer) (and tire rotation if your car is AWD, otherwise not so much)

Every 15k: Check air/cabin filters (do this yourself, takes 5 minutes)

Every 30k: Change brake fluid, (~$100-120 at a lexus dealer)... also change the filters you checked at 15k (again, do that part yourself, takes 5 minutes) --
NOTE: brake fluid is the one service item I recommend doing if you've reached the recommended time interval even if you have not reached the mileage one- Brake fluid gets water in it over time which lowers its boiling point significantly after a while... even if just sitting there- so I'd suggest changing every 2 years here, at most every 3.

Every 60k: Change spark plugs (Pricing varies a lot here, I've seen everything from 200ish to 600ish)

Every 100k: Change coolant (haven't seen many price quotes on this, I doubt it'd be much different from the cost on the brake fluid change though)


That's it

Anything else is BS your dealer is trying to overcharge you for that you don't need.

Disclaimer: this is for 2IS sedans... I've no idea if the convertible requires anything in the way of scheduled service for the convertible system.

Disclaimer PT2: In 2011 the 250 only was changed to synthetic oil, so the factory OCI becomes 10k not 5k



And you honestly don't need to even change the oil that often... even on conventional 7500-10k is fine depending on driving conditions...using a good synthetic can run 2-3 times that long with proper filter changes.... but that's one area where I WOULD suggest you follow the manual if you have an extended warranty and want to be a bit paranoid about it.

^ Yes that is correct. For the 2011 IS250/IS250C, its every 10k miles for an oil change based on what the Lexus service guide says.

For the 2011 IS350/IS350C/F, it's still every 5k miles.

Besides my tire rotation and oil change i didn't get anything. However my brakes are really soft now and i am reaching 20k miles but i have had my car for almost 3 years. Do i change my fluid now?

and does it matter to get a oil change and your service done at a toyota dealership instead of a lexus dealership?

i didn't do it, not worth the money. for $100 they just gonna check the fluid level and test drive. even the service advisor at the dealer kind of rolled his eyes when he told me the list of the things they do for this service. i'm waiting on my 2nd oil change when i hit 17k miles.

I'm editing my earlier post for 2 reasons-

1) To clarify the brake fluid change, which will answer your question

2) To add the note about the 250-only, 2011+ only, difference in factory OCI

And the only difference in having it done at toyota (if they'll do it, some won't) is that the service won't appear in the lexus vehicle service history, long as you keep good records shouldn't be a big deal

My wife just compared pricing for her RX350 30K service. She talked to service advisors at Lexus and Toyota. Prices

• Lexus: $650
• Toyota: $425.

She went to Toyota with the Lexus checklist and she's good to go.

Thank you Club Lexus members, my service light came on and called to make an appointment at my Lexus Dealer and was told it was going to cost me $115. So I came here to search, because that seemed crazy amount of money to spend for a tire rotation and battery change and everyone came to the same conclusion that you do not have to do the 15K service. One question I have the AWD model, do I need to get the tires rotated, someone had mention that you do not, just wanted to confirm.
