Default 45,000 Service

As a new owner of an AW IS250, I'm approaching 45,000 miles. I know that all I really need here is an oil change, tire rotation, and inspection of the air and cabin filters.

For fun, I contacted three area Lexus dealers to see what they recommended. All three had different things than are listed in the owner's manual, and prices were all quite different. Wouldn't it be nice if all Lexus dealers recommended the same maintenance that is in the manual?

Lexus of St. Louis quoted $296, but no tire rotation. Kenny Kent Lexus of Evansville quoted much higher-$420. I've attached their document which shows what they do and when. Plaza Lexus of St. Louis quoted $120 for the basics (tire rotation, oil change, wiper blade inserts, etc).

Isn't it strange the discrepancy of prices??

I guess each dealer can create their own maintenance plan.

Just ask for an oil change + tire rotation. At my dealership that would be ~$110. If I asked for the 5k interval service, price goes up to $190 even though it's an essentially the same thing.
Don't worry about replacing the key fog battery recommended in the 45k service. If your battery gets low you will get a "low battery" warning, at which point you can pick one up for $10 at any auto parts shop.

what year is your car? if your still under warranty keep an eye out for a strange idle and even faint shuttering of your engine at a stop...its an issue with only the 250 engines. There is a serive bulliten for this, when I did this last week my service advisor asked if i wanted to spark plugs to be done free of chrage (you just pay for the plugs) since they pull out the ones in there anyways. Yea this can be done 60-100k but I figured what the hell and did it at 40k. Dont let them do your wiper inserts, buy them from them for 14 bucks (for both if they charge more buy from sewell) and do it yourself..its extremely easy. I think all you really need is the oil and rotation...I went on a rant...but its useful info!

Yeah there's the "Dealer Recommend Services" and the "Manufacturer Recommended Services" out there. The dealer ones are always more expensive because they include random other things they tag on, that you almost always never need.

As far as the 45,000 mile service you need, don't ask for the "45,000 mile service" just ask for an oil change + rotation. Inspect the filters yourself, if they need replacing, replace them yourself. You can get them for cheap online and they are both super easy to replace!
