My friend dont and wont....are two different things.
More than likely you're going to have to go to an independent shop to get them installed. I can see some dealerships declined, because if something goes wrong with your ****e, you're not coming to sewell...you're coming to them

They actually did you a favor. Now you know never to go back and instead find a better dealership.
There's no rule anywhere saying you must buy parts from the dealership doing the service. If a particular dealership decides to make that their policy they're welcome to, but I recommend never returning.
I bought my plugs on Sewell and brought them to the dealership (which is an "Elite" Lexus dealership) and once they saw they were OEM Denso, they had no problem.

I have this same battle with my dealership all the time. The service department is great but anything over the parts counter is crazy expensive. I tell them to price match the parts or they can forget it. As long as they are reasonably close I am alright with it. Works most of the time.
Helps if you build a relationship with a good service writer who can help you.

The liability for failing parts would not be on them, but the company that makes the parts. I use to work at a dealership. There is a huge markup on parts. They don't want you to bring in parts because they lose money.

Why pay 30 bucks for a steak when you can buy a steak cheaper at the grocery store and just have the restaurant cook it for you?
It dont work that way.
Businesses are there to make money.
Just like the business you work for.
Without making money they can’t pay employees or pay the bills.
I don’t blame them a bit.
