Default Happy Birthday to my '06 IS350

Well, 10 years old this month and 80,000 miles. All is well. Lot's of recalls. Seems like a LOT of recalls but Lexus has been good in caring for me. A new water pump (had it replaced during a recall since it was leaking) and a new alternator. Alternator totally shorted out the battery and had to have it towed to Lexus.. Oh well.

The Pre-Collision-System has really done it's job about 4 times over the past 10 years. Puts on the brakes and tightens the seat/shoulder belts FAST!! I also love the radar cruise. Took some getting used to but once I had it figured out it is great to drive hundreds of miles and only have to steer. Maybe I'm just lazy?

As for the overall ownership experience? Water pump and alternator going out before 80,000 seems a bit unusual (compared to all the other cars I've owned the past 57 years.) but basically I'm a happy guy. I especially like the performance of the 350. And it's a V6 to boot. Imagine that!

All for now. Club Lexus is a great forum and I enjoy it.

That's great to hear! Yeah the water pump and alternator seem to be somewhat common on our cars but other than that the car is basically bullet proof. Good to know your enjoying your car

Here's to another 10 years!!

Mine is 10 years old as well, just ticked over 51,000 miles. I'm thinking its time to get rid of it. As good as it's been, 10 years is a long time. It's amazing how ahead of its time the IS was, PCS, Dynamic radar cruise control, hires nav, ML 6 disc DVD, etc.

Currently looking into other Lexus', but nothing really excites me. Top of my list right now is Audi A3 sportback etron or Macan turbo. Wish the LC 500 was on sale now.

I was gonna create a thread like this back in Oct '15 when my '06 IS350's 10th birthday came up! Overall, super satisfied with my 2IS as well. Like you, had the water pump and alternator done; but also add the OEM NAV to my list of odd things that needed to be replaced before 100k miles.

Wouldn't continue modding my 2IS if I didn't believe I'd hold onto it for many more years to come. Expecting another 100k easy out of this thing before anything "major" might arise I hope...probably a trans judging by the way I drive. LOL!

Congrats to all those '06 2ISs out there celebrating 10yrs!

You are right.......where did those last 10 years go? Fast I'll tell you. I think about changing into something else but as long as the '06 continues running well I think I'll keep it. Headlights that turn, ML sound system, Nav that does it's job, PCS, Radar cruise, 6 speed auto that gives reasonable mileage (I'd have bought a "stick" if available) , parking assist, rear camera, headlight washers, etc., all seem to be contemporary enough that buying new won't give me that much more than what I have. Sorta. Plus, I don't need to spend $$$$ on a car when I can take a cruise or, or, or????

But not like most cars they are running great I bet. My alternator and water pump went out around 75k on my is350. The pump was maintenance and the alternator was damaged from leaky valve cover gaskets.

You know it's really hard to believe hat my car is 10 years old now. I mean I've personally only had it almost 2 years now but the fact this car was made 10 years and yet still holds up perfectly with not a single thing wrong with it is just awesome to know. I mean these cars are basically bulletproof so I'm sure that mine will last me another 10 easily if I don't neglect it. And I sure do love to give it gas lol.

Love the 2IS it truly is an amazing vehicle

Just hit my cars 10th Bday (1/16/2016) as it was produced (1/16/2006) and its still going strong at 68k miles.

No major problems that Ive run into except the rear caliper seizing.

Cheers to another 10 years LOL

What is funny, is that at every car show that I attend I end up telling someone that the car is ten years old and they're just blown away. Timeless design and curves live forever!
