Default How good is the IS250 AWD in the snow?

Just bought an 07 IS250 AWD and was wondering how good it is in the snow with regular all-season tires??

Thanks

It does mediocore, but definately better off going with Blizzaks for winters.

I had a 07 IS 250 AWD, and when it was snow and pure ice, it showed its difficulties with all seasons.

You'll get started from a stop better, but after that, it's like driving any other car with all seasons. You still have to be very careful.

it still the driver's experience when driving to snow but having those winter tires on your car make a difference in terms of traction and braking,an experience and careful driver even driving a RWD will survive in snow, just be very careful and don't rely on your tires always,it's drivers instinct that matters

I had some winters on my is 350 awd last winter and it was incredible. Regardless of what drivetrain you have, winter tires are a must if your conditions call for it.

This.

Tires > drivetrain.

I'd take RWD with snow tires over AWD with all-seasons... tires matter more for most things you'd care about in winter (handling and braking for example).

As 98023IS250 said we don't get much snow in WA, but my IS250 AWD has much better handling in snow than my previous VW Golf especially going uphill on icy/snowy roads.

That depends on where you're at in WA. The AWD would in handy, definately better if it has snow tires.

When I had the 07 with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, the tires did show their difficult without dedicated winter tires on SR-900 in Issaquah during that last February snow storm. It was like a pure slick on there and all cars were going like 5 mph or something. Just feather a little bit on the gas from stop, automatically triggered the traction control and the car shook trying to stablize traction. For kicks, I floored it and it just went beeping because it could not get any grip !

I hope my IS does better in the snow than my Bimmer did. I never had too much trouble with the RWD, but hoping that having an AWD I don't have to worry about getting stuck anywhere. It's the first AWD car I've ever owned so it will be a little different driving. I bought my wife a '07 RX350 AWD recently so I'll probably drive in it in the snow anyway since it is a bigger, heavier vehicle. Anyone own a RX and driven in snowy conditions? Just wondering what to expect, I'm only going to run all season tires.

When I first bought my IS250 AWD I thought I would be fine driving on snow with Bridgestone Potenza all season tires. I was definitely wrong. Just making the slightest turns the VSC light would constantly come on. Later I decided to buy the Blizzaks and wow what a difference it made. I've need had problems slipping and sliding or getting stuck in snow. Remember even with winter tires the driver still needs to be cautious not like these maniacs with SUV's and trucks that drive so fast thinking they're invisible.
