Adding a Torsen to the AWD model would not be pointless, it would still provide a good grip upgrade.

On the 250awd to me yeah. It not a track car or drag by any means. If its a track car yeah. It kinda like putting it on a front wheel drive corolla no power to improve for grip lol. Just my thought .

I don't think you fully understand the point of having an LSD. Even on a FWD car, Corolla or not, you will still benefit from it and it will make the Corolla come out of a turn faster than one without an LSD. The Corolla would probably also benefit more with an LSD if it was a drag car because FWD lose grip much easier at one tire when you launch it. There are RWD drag cars that can get away very well without an LSD when they have the proper drag tires that don't break loose very easily. Last but not least, the IS 250 AWD system is not a 50/50 torque split by default, its 30/70 F/R, meaning it mostly behaves like the RWD IS 250 until it slips and that's when it becomes a 50/50 split; If you can keep the inside wheel from slipping in a hard corner and the stability electronics think it's all fine then you will still retain the optimal torque split, see where this is going? So in short, I think all sorts of vehicles will benefit from having an LSD and all cars should have an option for a real mechanical one.

Question Awesome info

thank you jeff for amazing information, I just got my 2012 Lexus IS250 AWD a month ago and someone asked me if my car had the LSD and I didnt know, I read someone mentioned that it has a 30-70 torque split which become 50-50 when it slips. Does this mean it has a LSD but not an efficient one and I tend to get under steer if my car slips? I am a car noob so I apologize if my questions dont make sense.

I love to learn so looking for everyone to educate me on slip differentials.

Your car has a limited slip centre differential in the transfer case, it does not have a limited slip front or rear differential.

Something I never mentioned but feel I should, if you want to do this with an AWD model, you need to swap the ring and pinion because you cannot change the gear ratio in the rear without changing the front. IS300's only came with 3.73:1 (M/T) or 3.91:1 (A/T) ratios. The IS250 uses a 4.10 ratio. If you want an easy install, find a Torsen from a Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ. These would be a direct swap for the AWD (complete pumpkin).

so it means my is300 can also use IS250'S rear diff?

anyone has idea about IS220D's rear diff?

can it fit to IS250/IS300 ?

cause I want the diff ratio of IS220D's (3.266)

No, the IS200d/220d use the larger differential similar to the IS F / IS350.

Jeff, would you happen to know what the gearing on that diff is as I really want to do this upgrade to my IS350.

Depending on model/year/options, the IS2xxD came with the following final drive ratios:

2.474:1
2.937:1
3.266:1

Looks like I would have to transfer the ring and pinion gears from the IS350 as those would be a downgrade.

Why would you even want one? The IS2xxD would be the same differential you already have with different ratios.

^He was hoping that maybe the IS2xxD had a shorter ratio than the OE 4.08 one in the 350.

B16da9, our hope relies on an IS-F owner being careless and totaling the car...leaving the LSD pumpkin in tact. Either that or go with the Quaife or uber expensive OS-Giken

Jeff, how were you able to get that diff out without touching the suspension or removing the CVs. I sure as hell couldn't get my diff out without removing at least one CV. Did you use a special CV removal tool? My car was on a hoist as well lol.
