I noticed exessive tire noise with the ALL SEASON kumho tires ( $155/ each)
car drove quiet after replaced with HIGH PERFORMANCE SUMMER YOKOHAMA a10a TIRES ( $260 each ) the road noise went away completely!!

summer tires = no noise
all season tires = noise
winter tires = moar noise

Mine is a is250 AWD

Just recently I noticed noise from the LF axle area.. its my LF wheel bearing ( i take turns doing 90mph, possible cause? haha )

They stick like glue for a street tire, and the tread pattern is kickass when the car is at a standstill. They make a litltle road noise, but I usually have the radio up anyway!

X2 for a KDW owner! Once you get past the fact that the tires are noisy, the tires overall performance is tops. Only thing I do have to say about them though is that when they're cold, they're chirp and squeal easily until at temp.

I've read plenty of posts from people complaining about the road noise from the stock tires. A new set of tires corrects it. Live with it until they wear out or swap em out early, your call.

I think it depends on how you value quietness. To me IS is not the quietest sedan I have driven, especially on uneven concrete surface, but quiet enough. Probably due to its big diameter rims and thin rubber, the road noise is pretty prominent. Probably its also because of the tires, but there is not apparent difference between my old Bridgestone Turanza ER33 and my new Michelin Pilot Super Sports tires in road noise. But I am no expert. That's just my opinion. Toyota Camry is much quieter on rough surface.

If you think tires are the issue for a noisy on an IS, has anybody driven at over 40 or 50mph with your windows down. That's what I call annoying. I can't really enjoy a drive up and down Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) with my windows down. Blame it on the ingineering!

Troll or not, the problem is the LOW PROFILE TIRES. Other than that it is almost average Lexus quiet.

Troll ??? I thought they were exterminated in WC3.

Mine was very quiet ...

until I threw in an exhaust and intake. I needed some feedback to tell me what speed I'm driving. I can be doing 80 and the car wouldn't make a noise.

As other said, explore tire options. Stock bloated tires and suspension absorb impacts of the road and noise better then a lowered car with low profile tires.

The YOKOHAMA Avids All Seasons on my RWD are noctorious for road noise. Since they were on new from the dealership when I got the car CPO, I did not want to spoil it - I will use them until they they wear out and get Michelin Super Sport Summer tires.

For Winters, going with Blizzaks.

The Camry is not a sport sedan so it isn't a good comparision. It is more like saying, well I driven an ES as a loaner and it is quiet, but it's not a sport sedan. I have driven and owned a Camry before, I get what you are trying to imply but the car is designed for a different purpose.

Also with low profile tires, there will be more road noise.
